Post subject:  Rusty's rear shocks vs. others

i know a lot of you folks have posted regarding rear rustys shocks. i called there today and inquired about getting ranchos instead of rustys rears, and the fella went on and on about how his are made in the asme factory...etc.....anyway, people with first hand experience with a rustys lift and eaither of these shocks please feed me your input? thanx, bob

They're feeding you a load of bull. Two shocks being manufactured in the same plant doesn't mean they're the same.

Go with the Ranchos. They've been proven over and over again.

Go with the Ranchos, no washers to mess with = no squeeks and they work great.

I'm replacing my Rusty's rear setup as soon as I have spare cash. They squeak, they stuff, they sit lower than the Frankenlift by almost .5" Probably sit a little softer too. No wonder my rear wheels stuff all the time and I hardly see the rub marks on other people's KJ's with Frankenlift/Daystar.

Post subject:  MONROE RELEX...The best.

I had the unfortunate opportunity to put my monroe reflex's to the roll test yesterday when an old woman turned left in front of me. I had to swerve left into oncoming traffic with an immediate right swerve. These were VERY hard and short manuvers. It passed the test.

Do yourself a favor, get the reflex all the way around.

PISS on the rest of the shocks, even though Rancho is made by the same company as Monroe...Get the best technology and safety!!

If anyone's shocks and struts other than Reflex or eldebrock can take a corner at a higher speed than mine...I'll pay for your shocks.

I'll roll before I let you win though.

I did that, twice. Once in my wife's KJ (all stock) and once in my lifted KJ (Rusty's). Both passed the test. Though I think I felt a little calmer in my wife's stock KJ :D

ok, heres a variation, what do you think.....rusty's 2 1/2" coils, front and rear, rsx17505 struts, and rsx17004 shocks....taller springs than ome(frankenlift), more rugged shocks/struts than rusty's? is this a good set up? also, what else would be required other than springs, shocks and struts with this combo?

Sounds good to me but not sure on the 2.5 on the Rusty's springs...I think they might really be a 2" spring...same as an OME spring. Not a 100% but this would still be a very good kit either way. Using the stock top plates and this spring...you would not have as much droop but then on the other hand...you would never have any ball joint contact. It would not be as tall either...But still...this would be a very good kit. Hope this helps. later...Clint

hey clint, thanx for the input....dont the rusty's springs give you a 2 1/2"lift? as opposed to ome netting a 1 1/2" increase? and...what did you mean about the top plate, im kinda dumb with this stuff yet...am i correct that the only parts i'd need to purchase are the springs, shocks and struts? thanx again

You will have to take apart the old struts and use some of the parts with the new springs. Some one had a very good parts break down that showed all the parts. it might be in the tech section. Hope that helps. later...Clint

Post subject:  skyjacker rear shocks

I had Rancho's and I thought they were a little soft. I love the pair of Skyjackers I bought, nice firm ride, doesn't bounce or rock at all. I luv the ride.

Rusty's should give around 2.25-2.5". Keep in mind that the Frankenlift uses a OME spring (1.5") PLUS a Daystar spacer (1.5"). So the Frankenlift definitely gives more height than the setup you are considering.

The Frankenlift also uses a top strut "relocation" plate...same as the daystar kits use. It gives a little better articulation/droop than using the stock top plate.
