Today i installed my new u-joint style front drive shaft and I'm in love. Installation was easy and very minimal vibration in the first 10 miles now its nice and quiet. The best thing is that I will never have a stick wipe out my front drive shaft again. This shaft uses a slip yoke and TJ u-joints so they are easy to find and cheap to have on hand. I paid $400 out the door and if anyone else wants one its $400 plus shipping. Just shoot me a pm and we'll make arangements.

Did you have to change the tc and diff connectors as well or does the new driveshaft bolt up the same way as the old one. I'm thinking i will get a custom one done up here if my DS goes again. There is a shop in town that does it.

I am very interested. I currently need a new front drive shaft.
Do have more info like:
who makes it?
tube diameter?
does it have a boot or dust cap?
Did that $400 include the u-joints and yokes?

Pictures would be helpful.

Tom Woods is also another option. I have had mine for over 1 year, no vibration, been great from day one. Yes you have to replace both companion flanges with yokes before installation and also the oil seal in the TC and differential. It was a little work but WELL WORTH the trouble. You will also have to service(grease) the new shaft u-joints from then on. E-mail me at sundog@utahbroadband.com for installation information and I'll e-mail you a pdf file. The new u-joint style driveshafts are FAR superior to the original front driveshafts :D

My drive shaft just went out as well. I guess this is a known problem in my area with the jeep liberty. its a bad connection for a 4x4 vehicle. the front drive shaft connection at the T-case is just garbage. there is no play, no shock absorbtion, nothing. my boot tore as soon as i started taking the thing offroad. what a crapshoot. along with many other chrysler parts. anyway. Northern Colorado Drive Shaft is changing the front DS to a U-joint style connection at the T-case for me as well. Shouldnt have to worry about this problem again. The boot at that conection is so small. its a severe weak point in the whole system that will be prone to failure over and over. Chrysler does not sell that boot for DS. even if they did. how would you get it on. you basically have to replace and replace and replace the darn part. every time that boot goes bad. it's like some of the crap Ford used to pull, parts that go bad on purpose. get rid of the DS if and when it goes bad. drive shaft shops can do this at a minimal cost. in fact cheaper than a new drive shaft from chrysler to begin with. the front DS connection stays the same apparently as it has a slip yoke and has more play and waivering before it blows apart. gotta love chrysler.

Just noticed these questions :) It vibrates like a mother at 70 and above. Aside from that it's great. I'm taking it in to the shop that installed it next week to have them look at it. Hopefully it's just a balance thing.

Yeah, I think having a stronger front drive shaft, IE thicker etc, results in less of a loss of power when in 4lo. It felt like it had more power to me anyway. Maybe I'm just a knob

i could see where it might feel like that, if the old one was binding you'd be losing some power simply tryin to turn the shaft through the binding joints

There is not enough angle in the front driveshaft to make a double-cardan joint a necessity in the KJ ITBJHO

they told me that it has something to do with the angle on the front not canceling out the angle at the transfer case. I don't know. Just going by what i'm told. But if there are 2 of them out there that vibrate like crazy at 70 than i think there is another problem that is not being addressed.

A double cardon joint(what those 2 u-joint at one end is called or also called a CV joint) has to have certain aspects meet to not cause vibrations, the axle pinion center line must be pointed directly at the t-case output centerline at ride height. If that can not be achieved a one u-joint per side setup should be used.
