Post subject:  Rear shocks

Ok..I tried searching the forums but since I got over 28,000 hits the site would only show me the first page...

So now I have to ask...

I have a 2003 Liberty with 2.5 lift. Some cheap spacer type I bought a few years ago who's name escapes me.

The shocks never did fit right and I should have changed them long ago..but real life has kept me away from working on the Jeep.

I was told that OEM shocks from a full size Dodge truck would fit on the rear with this lift.

Can anyone confirm that please??

Thanks and sorry to be so vague.

KJ

not full size Dodge truck

use Dakota rear shocks for a 4WD also don't use stock shocks as they will not last
Rancho RSX 17004 works great
can get them several places Summit Racing even your local parts store should be able to order them

my research for a daystar 2.5" lift found that the stock '98 - '03 Dodge Durango rear shocks can be replaced by the Rancho RSX17004's. That implies that a Durango rear shock will fit. I may be wrong.

Question: Those that have used the Durango shock...how did they work? Is there any concern with bushings, spacers, etc.? Are they adequate for moderate off-roading...like on N. GA., N.C. forest service roads? I'm trying to go a cheap as I can initially until I can afford a serious lift on down the road. Thanks for any input you have.

You need to add washers at the top of the RSX17004 shock. The stock shock is wider.

Same shocks are used on both, no difference

I would not use a "stock " shock not really gaining anything, may save a few bucks over what the Rancho RSX costs but what you give up in ride would not be worth it ( not going to the Rancho RSX.)

Interesting had to add washers on the cheap Crustys shocks but never did on Ranchos and that includes several sets :? :? :? must of done something wrong

I got some rear Gabreal shocks from Auto Zone for a 2002 Durango a few yrs. ago. Cost was 21.99 ea. + tax and came with a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. Figured I couldn't go wrong at that price since rears are a breeze to replace.

The Autozone here has the same shock for about the same price. I may go with those at first. How'd they do?

You work with airpowered tools? Then you made the upper shock pocket smaller... :D

No problems thus far, no washers to add, and if I do have a problem, I just use the warranty for new ones.
