Post subject:  Rough Country 3" lift Good or Bad
Hi, i did a search here in the forum and didn't see anything about this lift.If it has been mentioned before feel free to lock this post. If not does anyone have any info this lift? They claim you don't need any other mods and it's safe to use. i would rather go for 3" than 2.5' if it was safe enough..

If I'm correct I believe there is a post here somewhere with people who have had this lift & had problems with it,can't remember who it was or what the issue was but it wasn't good, anyone else wanna chime in ?

BAD BAD BAD BAD Get the Daystar. It is the only strut spacer kit that is worth your time (i have the rustys, i know lots who have had others). The Daystar kit relocates the strut so they don't worn out as fast. Do a 3/8" clevis and you will have a 3 inch lift. The Rough Country lift (saw a libby with it at a dealer) is no taller then my Rusty's lifted KJ. Both were prelowered.

My view again, if anyone is interested:

Best lift if you can afford it: All-J Frankenlift
Best bang-for-the-buck:
- Prelowered: RRO Combo Lift w/ Ranchos
- Lowered: Rusty's Coil Lift (replace Rusty's shocks w/ Ranchos)

I've had RRO's combo lift for almost 2 years now and I've wheeled it pretty hard (ask anyone who was at Moab 2005 or Big Bear 2005) with no problems.

The full Daystar kit is probably great, too, but a bit pricier.

Does the 2.5 really give you that much noticible lift. I just don't want to do it and then be dissapointed. Also I just got 245/70/16 Revos installed.I might be doing things stupid backwards as far as mods go. will that size tire look dingy with a 2.5 lift? :shock:

2 1/2" is very noticeable, and critical for many of the trails we do. The difference between the 2 1/2" lifts and the 3" lifts (if there really is such a thing) is NOT noticeable.

Those tires shouldn't look bad with a 2 1/2" lift. The stockers look pretty silly, though.

You might consider a 2" lift like the BDS. I haven't seen anything negative about it reported here or on the other KJ forums.

IMO, a 2.5" lift is definately noticable.

2" lift from 4wd.com here. Easy on the driveshafts and other components. Definitely noticable when parked near a stock KJ. I have 245/70/16 Revos with this lift.

Joe Jeeper and I both have the 4WD lift and love it. The ride is way better than stock. Using the rear shocks supplied with the kit for now. No problems with it at all.

Stay away worse lift kit ever. I had it for 3 month, spend well over 4000, yes that is 4 thousand dollors to get it to even be worth while and i had to go back to stock since the angles and the design was just horrible. Save yourself the head ache and stay away. Beleive me.

the kit costs $350 with labor to install you might be looking at $700 or so. How did you get to $4000? Did you burn up both CV's and both struts? Seems like an awefull high number to me. How much do new struts cost? $80 for Rancho's right? so if you burned up both of them (easy to see with any spacer kit besides daystar) thats $160, so probably 3 hours labor for both at a total $80 per hour, thats $1100 right there. The alignment (could be anywhere from $100 to $300) thats $1200-$1400. Both CV's at $280 per side (what i was quoted by my stealership) that gets us approaching $2000. What happened? Did the kit do that much damage?

the kit did so much more its ridiculous. It stripped the suspension bolts, which was like 40 for the bolts than the labor to install it, and also 8 alignments to get even close, than to pay the dealershipt to have it removed and go back to stock, oh did i mention that the springs in the front and rear had to be replaced.

It was just a nightmare...
