I plan on doing a 2" lift sooner or later, but the tires need to come first, due to wear.

A local tire shop seemed to think that I couldn't go much larger than the stock size- they said that 245/75/16 would rub. Anyone out there that can vouch for this?

Don't want to go huge, just seems like this size can get me a little bit more rubber, and more options, since the stock size seems kind of odd.

Any input? Thanks in advance.

Earlier models w/ fresh springs could get away w/ 245/70-16's. Not sure if that would work on the CRD. See if you can find a tire shop willing to mount one up so you can try it. In the rear it should be fine so check the front for contact. Most likely if it does hit, it will only be on the plastic wheel well liner.

there were a couple of folks who fit 255/70/16 on unlifted CRD's - Sir Sam did 245/75/16
and Darby did a 235/75/16

however - don't hit a bump.

the CRD springs are the same length but because they're stiffer - you get a little more room

but 06 is now 3 almost 4 years - they will eventually sag

the 245/70/16 is a safer bet

Thanks much for all the info, I do appreciate it. Sounds like the guy at the tire store was on target. Guess I'll stick to the stock sizes for now- I can always upgrade later. Besides, it appears that bigger tires (duh) would definitely cut down on fuel mileage.

Cheers,
Chad

Saying (Sooner or later)means later.
I would recommend you go with a nice pair of 235/75's if the lift comes LATER.....245/75's will rub like a sunuva, but you wouldn't want anything smaller lifted.
I had 225/75 BFG muds on when stock and they were great, but coulda went with 235's
