Just wonderin what you guys are doin to squeeze more power out of your KJs? Throttle spacers, headers, exhaust...??? I got a Gasser with a manual trans so I wanted to get some ideas. Especially for when I get my 265's next summer.

Don't waste your money on a TBS. The one designed for the Liberty actually DECREASES the inside diameter of the intake on the throttle body, so this is obviously counter-intuitive to gaining horsepower. Stick with an aftermarket intake and less restrictive muffler. The biggest thing is to remeber this is a Jeep and not a sports car. You can only do so much before you have to start diving into the engine. If it comes to that, just buy a muscle car if you want to go crazy with horsepower mods.

we had a guy do a headjob / cam/lifters if im not mistaken

don't think he's on the forum anymore, troy would probably have to spill what the guy did specifically if he even remembers

cost effectiveness of such work with our KJ's is very low expecially if you're unable to do a majority of the work yourself

There are a lot of devices for sale that promise a power increase & better gas mileage but I doubt they work.

I've never heard of any aftermarket cams & lifters for the Liberty's 3.7L gas engine. Myself I'd be scared to dismantle my engine that far to replace them for a little extra power.

If you do chose to run on 265 tires then maybe you should look into new gears for your axles.

Maintain a good tune-up, clean, free-flowing dry drop-in air filter (Eaa201 of course) and maybe a different muffler on the stock pipes and that is really about as good as you are going to do w/out spending lots of money to make more power. There is a magazine article on intake/cat-back exhaust upgrades on a KJ (may have had a chip in it too iirc) and the $ per HP increase was sad. Lots of cash for very little improvement and only way to see that small increase was full throttle at the expense of fuel mileage. Best way to recover from bigger tires is lowering your gear ratio as mentioned. Only 4.10's available for the KJ though so it will only be a small improvement.

Higher number = lower gears.
