Post subject:  Tools that are needed/required for a lift

Hey everyone:

as some of you are aware, i recently purchased a 2 inch BDS suspension lift kit.. now its time to install it with the help of my mechanic friend.

the question that i have are what types of tools are needed?

i know he has all the basic tools that any mechanic would have. i.e, strut compressor, c clamps, stands, jacks, etc. etc.

any other tools needed? i heard someone say a pickle fork?

any input would be gretly appriciated so i can verify with my buddy that he has the tools.

also, does anyone have any tricks or links of tips that i could use when installing the lift kit? like the front bumpstops, sturts, springs etc? :)

thanks alot guys... i am so excited about getting this lift installed. and yes there WILL be pics of the liberty all apart.

thanks again everyoene

( to knock loose the upper a arm)
No real special tools needed

I recently installed a Daystar 2.5" spacer lift and had all the tools I needed and the most useful were the RATCHET STRAPS! Excellent for pulling and holding whatever needs pulling and holding...like the clevis...so you can install bolts, etc. Be sure they are heavy-duty so they don't snap or let go and smack you in the face. Mine were 1-1/2" and one of the ratchets bent, but held. Next time I'll use bigger ones. :)

You dont want to tear the boots on the ball joints. Loosen up the nut, dont take it all the way off of the UBJ. Pry up in the arm and smack the UCA with the hammer, will pop right off, if it dosent hit it again. PB blaster is a penatrating catalyst, will loosen up nuts and such, kind of like a lubricant.

PB Blaster is a great tool to have, spray it on all parts that have to come loose.

Pickle forks as stated above tear boots and destroy things you don't want destroyed.
I have never owned one nor will I ever.
Don't have to pry up on the UCA, just loosen the nut and take it all the way off, then put it back up on to protect the threads and also so the arm does not pop off all the way, also have a jack under the lower control arm. You take the nut all the way off so you know it will come off with no problems.
Don't "smack" the Upper Control arm either, hit the top of the spindle right where the upper ball joint goes through, one solid hit will knock it loose

 Meant to say hit the spindle. I leave the nut on to make sure nothing can come appart further than you wanted it to.

I leave the nut on as well, but take it off first, some times the nut will turn real hard the last few threads, so this way you clean the threads and then run it back on a few to protect the threads and so it doesn't pop all the way off

Couple of things if you read through that
*you do not have to loosen the lower control arm
*I would sit the jack stands a little further back to get them out of the road while working, their is a notch back on the frame that works great
remove the tie rod end helps to free things up
*in the rear using spring compressors takes too much time I think, if you need help installing the new spring and have the sway bar on yet, stick the stock jack in between the brakes and the frame two minutes and you're done
