I drive an '06 libby with about 73k on it, and very recently it started making this crazy rattling noise at idle, it doesn't do it all the time, so I wasn't too worried about it until the other day I got a little PO'ed and decided to look under the hood. And much to my dismay (and shock might I add) The M$*#&##^%@!*$ tensioner pulley is freaking out vibrating back and forth like a jackhammer. there is no rust, no structural damage on the pulley, no CEL or other idiot lights, the serp is only 9k miles old, I can't think of anything that COULD be wrong with it. is this a common problem? Why is it doing this all of the sudden? how do I fix it? etc. note: my jeep idles at around 600rpms, if I bring the throttle to around 800-900rpms it stops, but when it goes back down it starts again. also, it doesn't always do this, sometimes no noise at all, sometimes it will start then stop a second or so later, sometimes it is constant. I'M SO FRUSTRATED!!! ~thanks for your help Andy |

Buy and install new tensioner, about $50,one bolt,10 mins max.Installing a new tensioner should be done with a serp belt change since the internal spring in the tensioner wears out also. The new tensioner will come with both pulleys attached already. |

U sure it's the tensioner or that other little pulley that just spins? I had the little one that spins go out on my Jeep while I was pulling a CJ back from Vegas. Out in the middle of no-where, at night. It took me to time at all to replace it but once that sucker breaks, it's over. |
