Happened to my wife today, said it was "missing" and lacked power, engine light came on, but then light and problem cleared. Pulled only this 1 code and here's the description I've found: Trouble Code: P2317 Ignition Coil No. 6 Secondary Circuit Insufficient Ionization Possible Causes: * Intermittent condition * Cylinder No. 6 spark plug or wire is damaged or it has failed * Ignition Coil No. 6 is damaged or it has failed * Ignition coil control circuit is open or shorted to ground * ASD relay output circuit problems * PCM has failed Last week I went to start her car and the battery was low, 3-month-old new Optima blue top, couldn't find a drain afterwards. Hadn't been run for about 15 hours. 3 months ago the entire electrical system would cut in and out. Charging voltage was all over the map, disconnecting all power fixed it. Not sure if this is related or not. |

Never heard of that code before! I'd check the wires for the the #6 coil first. However, given your recent problems (the PCM controls the charging voltage), I'm thinking that the PCM is close to giving up the ghost. |

Good point about the PCM. You could replace the #6 coil and the ASD relay for under $50 (although I really have never heard of ASD circuit troubles with ANY KJ's thus far). In fact, maybe try to swap the ASD relay with say, the A/C relay for awhile just to rule it out. Plus I think if it were related to the ASD circuit you'd be having more pronounced and more frequent drivability troubles. While you're in there changing the #6 coil, check all the wiring to/from it and check the condition of the #6 plug. Most of the "possible causes" you listed can be triggered by a PCM going south. I certainly hope that isn't the issue, but doing the stuff we mentioned would be a good place to start. |

I'm going to swap the # 6 cyl coil with #1. If its the part the code will change. If not I'll start looking for a PCM. |

Moved the coil and the code moved with it. New coil and the misfire problem is gone. I took it out on the highway when it was misbehaving, would miss at the bottom of a gear and under load, after about 2 seconds power to engine would be cut (just like the rev-limiter) and it would leave you stranded with no motor for about 5 seconds. Must be some kind of engine protection thing. Thanks for the input guys. |

Just an update on this problem. Car ran for a few months with no problems and then it returned again, same code, go figure. I pulled the ASD relay and jumpered the connection so I could further diagnose without having the engine cut out while driving. Replaced the coil a couple of days ago and car is back to normal again. Car has 108 thousand kms on it, or about 65k miles. |

Having the same issue with the same code, so I need a new asd relay and a new coil to fix the issue? |
