I just picked up a set of Spidertrax Spacers. What type of thread lock should I use? Do I use it on the external lugs of the wheels or just the internal lugs to the spacer?

Thanks,

Thanks,

my spidertrax came with some thread lock.. it was blue in color. i only used it on the nuts that hold the spacer to the hub.... not the nuts that hold the wheel to the spacer.

What about torque?

Use the high strength thread locker,do not use the medium strength or the permanent stuff.Torque the spacers down at the same torque as the before which should be between 85-115lbs-ft(better off going on the high side for the spacers).

i tq'd mine at 110 and never had a problem.... i also never checked them  but when i went to take them off they were all still very tight. only thing that sucks about installing spacers is getting someone to hold the brake while you torque them.

are they pretty safe to use?

also, how much does it knock down MPG due to the tire being a little bit outside the flare?

Use Loctite RED (which is what mine came with, but it really small quantities, so I had to buy more).

As Troy says torque high (100+ ft-lbs), but not too much (don't want to break a bolt!!!)

As for mileage loss, it depends on your tire size,... and the weight/drag of the skids, rock-rails, diff cover, cross-rails, roof basket, etc....

Seriously, compared to the other mods, the impact on MPG of the tires sticking out a little is marginal at best...

Well the spacers are on. Now I have to do some trimming. It looks like it is hitting just below the fog light door.

Heat gun and a BFH should handle that -- just heat up the plastic LIGHTLY and press with the hammer to remould the plastic.

Oh, and with the tires sitting farther out, get used to cleaning the side mirrors more regularly...

The OEM torque range for the stock 1/2x20 wheel studs and lugnuts is 85-115lbs-ft of torque.115lbs-ft of torque will not damage the wheel studs or the lugnuts as long as they are clean and dry(do not add anti-sieze,it changes the torque value the bolt can take).
