I am new to this forum and apologize if the question has already been answered. However, I have not been able to find out what size wrench/insert I need to remove the oil drain plug on my '06 Liberty CRD? I will probably replace the drain plug with an appropriate Fumoto plug, but in the meantime I need to get this one out. Thanks!

why don't you just get under the jeep and see what socket fits the plug

a real jeeper would not care if it was wet, cold, dry, muddy, or what not and still get under it

Howdy captfrog - Welcome to LOST

I think it's an 8mm Hex (not sure but close to that)
make sure you have a washer under it -
otherwise the first threads get messed up and it only has about 4 or 5

I've heard it was an 8 MM allen wrench configuration (which would be hex head), but thanks for the confirmation.

I took the easy way out for changing the oil - used a dipstick oil extractor. :)

Unfortunately, removing it via the dipstick method does not get it all. For this reason, on all the boats I have ever owned, I have installed a drain plug hose so that all the oil will be easily removed. Not so easy to do on a car though.

1/2" socket

The diesel drain plug takes an insert to withdraw the drain plug, not a socket.
