My sweetie has a 2002 Liberty LE, 3.7, fuly loaded stock 4x4 that she purchased new. It gets serviced folowing the Jeep service manual guidelines.

At 45,000 miles we had new pads and shoes installed. They put on semi metalic pads and within 1000 miles the brakes sqeaked really bad. To fix the problem we replaced the rotors and and installed ceramic pads. The squeak stopped but now comes back from time to time, usually when rolling to a stop under 20 miles per hour. Periodically, my sweetie says it also makes a who, who, who sound like an owl.

I just smile when she tells me these things, but she knows her Jeep and so I trust that it is making some type of noise.

When I asked a local Jeep mechanic he told me that the front wheel beaings are sealed and don't need to be repacked, so he didn't think the noise was a wheel bearing. The CV boots look good and there are not any oil or grease leaks. He said the limited slip differential can make noise and may need to be serviced.

With the Jeep off the ground on jack stands and in 4 wheel drive, I don't hear any noise.

Any Ideas.

Is the 7.3 a turbo diesel? Bet it runs like a scalded dog.
