This question has probably been covered a few billion times on here, but I thought I'd check anyway. I was just reading another post about option packages, and took another look at this page that I got from the dealership: http://photos.djali.is-a-geek.org:8000/Jeep/p4060052.jpg?width=1600 I have the Renegade with the OffRoad package, I am pretty sure (I can check my window sticker at some point). Judging by that paper, the Trash-Lock is included with the OffRoad package. (It says Axle - Trac-Lock Differential, incl. with AWL) and AWL is listed as "Off Road Group". I do have the 235/70R16 tires, so that is another hint pointing to Offroad Group, I believe Unfortunately, I don't have copies of the rest of the pages handy (the ones that list what is in each option package). I remember hearing that a way to check for the trash-lock is to look for a green tag on the pumpkin. Is that correct, and is there a certain part number I should see there as well? |

It's on the rear axel, I belive on the drives side. It is a green ring and will state what you have. |

If it fell off, is there another way to identify? Also, if I *don't* have one, does anyone know if I am supposed to? I'm pretty sure the offroad package was something like a $600 option group, and included tires, skids, and the rear diff |

That will tell you everything that is in your vehicle. |

Anything I should know about driving with one, now that I've been doing it for a year without realizing it? |

You can make a sharp right turn and floor it, that will let you know it you have one or not. If if spins the right tire you have an open diff, if it just accellerates you have a trac-lok. P.S. I'm not responsible for you flipping your Jeep if you do this wrong ![]() |

It was a nice surprise! I was debating getting it when I was ordering the jeep, and decided not to spend the $285 extra on it, thinking that 4WD by itself would be enough for what I would likely be doing with it. Like the Tire Pressure Monitoring, it was a feature that got included even tho I didn't ask for it / pay for it, thanks to some strange inclusion in the package groups. Anyway, I found the blue book, here's what it lists: AWL: Off Road Group Includes:
I think I actually got a bit of a ripoff. There are two models of the Renegade, the D and the X. The X comes with the skid plates, tow hooks, lightbar, tires, and light guards - the D doesn't. The prices for the Offroad Group for the D and X packages are $650 and $610 ($40 difference). That $40 supposedly covers three towhooks and skid plates. Somehow I don't think that adds up correctly. But in any case, I'm excited aout my "new" trac-loc! |
