Hi i am a new user and my jeep cherokee 2004 auto 3.7l v6 starter doesn't seem to be engaging with the fly wheel. It has slowly gotten harder and harder to start. My engine doesn't even get a chance to crank it seems to be something after the starter but before the engine cranking. I have checked my battery its fine and it is only 3 weeks old anyway.

My starter is fine i took it off and tested it with a battery and it works fine throw out and spin, there are not any signs of defect at all!

Does anyone know what would be causing my car to not start?
Any help is much appreciated!

For those who have the same problem I found the problem it lies within the starter motor although it was seeming to work fine under load it appears as though the little cog in the starter motor is spinning on the shaft which therefore stops it from starting the car. Looks like i'm buying a new starter!

The battery might be fine but your connections or cables might be bad. Make sure the cable clamps are clean and have good contact with the terminal posts and are tight, but not super cranked tight. Could be the cable connection at the other end of the battery cable or the cables themselves. Check those.

Hi I am from Australia. Yeah i did test everything else but it is the starter, its stuffed. once i put it in i will repost to let anyone who comes across this post know exactly what the problem was so if they have any trouble they will be able to see how it could be fixed.
