Yep, that bad boy is a dana 44 shorty. I was going to try to mount it to the KJ, but I haven't had the time. Its collecting dust right now, next to the hotrod. I need to finish the ol' hot rod before I go too crazy with fabing stuff for the KJ. However, I will be making the 5 inch lift for the front soon.

What is really bad, is that I picked it up at the Bloomsburg, Pa. 4wd show for $150, brandy new. The guy that sold to me made a mistake on the price, needless to say his boss was really PO'd.

Is it a special order from a parts supplier? Or is that diff from a WK/XK? You said it was a D44?

The firm in Pa. that converts full size vans to 4wd has several of them. They were at the Bloomsburg 4wd show, and I picked it up from them. The information they gave me was they put them in the front of Astro vans. Some of the Astro vans are all wheel drive, so the beef them up with these units. I asked if gears were cut the right way for front applications, and they yes. They get them right from dana. There are bolt holes all over the pumpkin, so mounting it should be a problem. I have two front drive shafts from late model CJ's that I wanted to cut down. However the U joints on the Dana are a lot larger than on the driveshafts. Problem #1 for the conversion.

Its sitting around the garage, and I just may put it on e-bay, I just don't know if I will get to installing it in the KJ. I would be cool however to fit it in there!

PS The guy "I stole it from" told me after I purchased it that from the factory new his cost was around $500. The unit is brand new. I guess I should take the cover off to see if the gears are in it!

If you decide to get rid of it let ME know. I'll give you whatever you paid for it if you want to get it off your hands.
