Post subject:  starting motor

last month i got stuk in a mud pit , mud everywhere :D and after a coupple of days may starting motor stopped working , the dealer said that there was mud in it and it couldnt work properly , so i had to change it . yesterday i was traveling on the highway ( and here are pretty fast  ) and when i stopped at the gas station , the car wouldnt start again ....... i mean the starting motor was spinning but it wouldn engage the flywheel . I called the dealer and i told me i had mud in it again , but i didnt go offroading since the last time i had a dive in the mud , so the dealer told me that the speed can send some old mud stuck inside the engine on the starting motor
anyone had the same problem ? can you help me ?

If you hear the starter motor whirring, but not engaging, it could be a bad solenoid. I doubt enough leftover mud could work its way there to disable it.

I had a similar problem with sand. It turned out that the clutch in the starter to engage the gear went bad. According to the shop that rebuilt mine, dealer wanted $300 for the starter, the clutch can wear quickly on this starter. He rebuilt mine with parts from a Neon or something like that. I have not had a problem since, it been 2 1/2 years now. The starter went with 30,000 miles on the truck. The rebuild only cost me $90, I'm sure the price has gone down for the starter.
