Post subject:  my jeeps in bad shape
problem 1. the clutch.
i have a 2006 6 speed and i'm pretty sure it needs a clutch.. it has 40,000 miles with about 36000 of those lifted with 32's and i've wheeled it a lot. going up steep hills on the road floored in 4th clutch slips... also the throw out bearing squeeks and squeels now and then. and the clutch catches at the end of the pedal.. and kinda hard getting into gear now and then. What clutch do i need and where do i get it?

problem 2. Vibrations
When in low rpm's and using the gas to maintain a speed it feels like i'm on rumble strips.. especially in 5th or 6th gear aound 60mph (1400-2000rpms). def. a drive line vibration.. it's not the tires. can feel it every where in the jeep.. arm rest, steering wheel, floor, seats, shakes the whole thing. When i let off the gas it it goes away.. touch the gas pedal again and it's back. any idea what could be doing that?

problem 3. HUM and echoing noise
Especially from 40-60mph... makes a terrible echoing humming noise.. sounds like drive train or maybe front diff/axle noise. def. a rotating noise.. i have mud tires but that's not whats making the noise. def. not a tire noise. what could be making that terrible noise?

besides those problems it's perfect :) any advice would be great!

I would check the passenger half axle CV, the rear drive shaft u joints and the front drive shaft rear CV. If you can, lift the jeep off the ground, put it in 4WD let it idle and watch the passenger inner CV on the half axle. Mine was bad and had similar symptoms. If it wobbles you will know it is the culprit. While it is up use a flashlight and check the rubber boot on the back CV of the front drive shaft to make sure it is intact. You can also grab the shaft and wiggle it to make sure it is tight. Mine was missing the back boot and it was "crunchy". Also while in the air you should check the universals on the rear shaft. Any of these problems may present themselves in the manner that you have described.

great replies. .keep them coming! first i'll be changing the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and flywheel... then will go from there and try to tackle the vibration problems and hopefully that will also take care of problem number 2.

well the Rev probably answered all your questions correctly, but.... I would fix Number 1 and maybe #2&3 will be fixed also.

problem 1 has been around for a while but i keep putting it off.. but cant any more... problem 3 has also been going on for a while but getting worse.. and problem 2 just started happening this weekend. however today i discovered a cracked nipple (goes to the hose that goes to the heater core) on the intake manifold of my mustang.. so i have to spend $$ on that first :(. atleast it should run better with a larger free'er flowing intake mani!

hey now... you take that back! it came from the south so there's no rust :).. not too shabby for a 2001. plus you cant beat the sound of straight pipes and a strong running 4.6 :BANANA:

I dunno... ask some of the Ohio guys what a 5.7L 'Hoe sounds like with straight pipes, no mufflers....may be a tad bit louder than that little ole 4.6

Got to drive around the block in a White '69 Boss 429,3 original miles on it,serial # KK1318.Totally stock it puts over 500hp/700lbs-ft of torque to the rear wheelsImage

It sounds like the vibration may be from a warped flywheel.

Are flywheels like brakes nowadays? Can't be turned regardless of what the manufacturer says?

Basically, new clutch kit, throwout bearing (yours squeak), and flywheel, you'll be right as rain. I wouldn't recommend going with one of those chavvy racing clutch kits since you go off road, and that will narrow the engagement and render it nearly undrivable off road. It will be unbearable with such a narrow engagement. It's almost unbearable driving my Scorpio with the racing clutch on the street, I couldn't imagine trying to drive off road with such an arrangement.

i dont know if this counts, but when i turned 16, my dad let me drive his 69 camero Z28 with the 302 in it, open heads and rust free for 35 years, till we sold it for a boat, but i still had a 96 corvette lt4

update... after not driving it for a long time because of the shake.. i was about to bite the bullet and order a clutch kit and flywheel when i thought i'd look under it... since the vibration was in the seat/center consul i knew it was coming from the rear end area... but the squealing noise still sounded like a throw out bearing... very confused i jacked it up and looked under. I figured if there was a problem it would be the U-joint(s) or the locker... What i found was the rear U-joint on the back drive shaft was absolute garbage. Completely warn out.. and even one of the caps was cracked and had a chunk missing... the drive shaft had nearly 1/2 inch of play up and down/side to side. I went and got... then installed the front and rear U-joint and all my vibrations and squeals are gone!! the squeal was a few extremely dry caps in the U-joints. now i just have the humming/echoing to deal with. I"m going to trade tires and wheels with a friends street going liberty to see if that gets rid of it... if it does not get rid of it it's not the mud tires... and i'll probably order axles and that intermediate shaft. tomorrow will bring more news!

Glad you found the main problem. My nephew pulled his S10 blazer in the driveway ( was our old blazer), while out of town, his mom siad it developed a vibration that was getting worse.... one cap was completely missing in Ujoint and needles gone from other one.... I'm surprised they didn't lose the whole driveshaft.
