i have not torn into it yet.. .but from what i can see there is a ring on the inside of the tire... i'll keep it as a spare. it just kinda snapped and i took the next road to the right and pulled into a back parking lot. i knew what happened as soon as it did. plus the lady at the stop sign i turned right at was looking at my right front like  ..     at least now i can replace them with better parts! real glad this didn't happen going faster then 10mph in a straight line. going 70mph around a left corner would've been an interesting ride :JEEPIN:

i had this happen to me at 65 on a texas highway, i know what you going through , lucky for me it did no damage, put on the new A arm and everything was good as new, cept for a bit of aluminum the broken arm shaved off the rim as i was coming to a controled stop. glad you and your jeep are alright stuff like this could always be way worse

Welcome to the club! :jester:

Glad to hear it happened at slow speed like mine did! I didn't damage anything else besides the A-arm balljoint, hopefully you did the same.

Wow. good thing you were going slow. Just installed JBA a-arms on Thursday and aligned yesterday. Drivers side boot was torn and I kept hearing a thumping noise when I made slow hard turns. Noise is all gone now with the new a-arms and ride quality is better.

Glad no one got hurt

eeek! mine were good from about 6000 miles when i lifted it to the 41000 miles it has on it now. but my left has always been pretty much maxed out height wise.. so i'm sure that's not good on the stock a-arms/ball joints. i knew they were going to go it was just a matter of time. cant wait to order new ones tomorrow!

i just replaced mine and i have 160,000 on mine. it has been lifted for about 30 or 40,000 miles.... just blew the drivers side a couple weeks ago. thats what sparked the whole redoing my lift project...... now i have the JBA's and they rock

I'm glad there were no serious injuries or vehicle damage. YIKES.

How do you know your ball joints are at risk? I had my lower ball joints replaced during the 2006 recall, about 50,000 miles ago. I've since worn the new LBJs on a Daystar spacer lift and now one week on OME medium springs (#2926). Should I be concerned?

if you had the lowers replaced under the recall those are probably alright.. and to check the top ones jack up jeep so the front right/left tire are off the ground then grab the tire top and bottom and rock it back and forth.. if there's any play you need to check it out. Also there will be a lot of 'clunking'/'squeaking' and strange noises coming from the ball joint. those are the only ways i know.. if anyone knows other ways feel free to chime in!

Thanks!

When you say rock the tire, what kind of motion or direction? I'm assuming you mean toward-and-away/in-and-out. Right?

I am sitting at 114k with original and OME HD all around. I do silly things like fly over speed bumps and things like that :grim:
Perhaps I should take a look at mine. My wife always laughs at me since I look for things that are going out on my KJ. I just tell her I would rather replace an item before it becomes catastrophic...especially now with a little one on the way.

I had my Passenger side go to during Hurricane Earl. Tire rubbing was heard- only going 3 mph- ripped CV Boot and CV Joint, $320 later with a moog UPJ, CV joint and boot I'm be installing tonight. But glad it was not my wife driving on the road.

Blew a ball joint in an LT1 Caprice on the EVOC course one night. Instructor had to pull the seat fabric out of his butt when I finally came to a stop in the grass (High speed elevated curve, around 60 mph).
