So let's pretend I fall into a lot of money, so I'm suddenly able to buy some OME springs for my KJ if I want to.

Most folks say "get the 790s" but when I look it up on the ARB website it lists 790s as REALLY heavy duty even for a CRD. Like, if you've got a winch bumper, winch, jack, tools, etc. maybe the 790s would be ideal. But my Jeep doesn't have any of that stuff on it and probably never will. So... wouldn't the 927s work just fine for me? My fear would be putting the 790s on and then finding out that it's stiffer than what I've already got but then it's too late. I definitely do NOT want it stiffer I want it to ride better so I'm thinking 927s if I decide to buy springs.

Opinions?

here are my thoughts, take em or leave em!

The stock springs on the front of a CRD are rated at 410 lbs
The OME 927 ( Heavy Duty springs ) are rated at 400 lbs
So why go to springs that are rated at less than stock?
Yes the 790s are rated at 500 lb, but going from a rating of 410 to 500 is just going to firm up your ride some and make it handle better overall, on road and off. Plus will last longer as well
I have the 790s on my gasser, true I have the ARB that weighs 80/90 lb but that about evens it out to a CRD right? Mine on the road rides better than a Caddy, floats down the highway at 85 plus :pepper: :JEEPIN:
yes had to add some to the sermon to make it better

Sermon over now 8)

How do you know the stock CRD springs are 410 lbs? Did you measure them yourself? Find some published info somewhere? Just an honest question. I've seen published ratings for KJ springs on here before but I wasn't sure where those numbers actually come from.

Well, if that is true, then I guess I'd probably go with the 790s.

So what about the rear? Some of the additional CRD weight is from the transmission, so the rear is actually a tad heavier than the rear of a gasser too. Is there only one option for the rear springs? Or is there a heavy duty rear spring for KJs?

Definitely get the 790's.
Don't even think of anything else.

For the rear there is only one option, the OME 948's.
And if I'm not mistaken, those are the MED Duty. No rear Heavy Duty option.

I've rode in a CRD that we lifted before and after.
Went from stock to FULL OME. Definitely a difference, a great difference.

948s for the rear only real choice
Spring rate, did I measure them myself? no thats what they are, you can look up everything on line if you want but those are the numbers. Over 6 years of talking about KJ springs / what works/ what doesn't and you learn a few things and try to pass it along.

I had them before I added the bumper and winch and I was driving 4K miles per month at the time. No issues both on and off-road.

So I clipped the bumper on my 06 CRD and while not badly damaged I want it to look better. I was thinking of going for an ARB Bull Bar and adding a WARN winch. If the stock springs on the liberty are rated for over 400 pounds, can I put the bumper and winch on without upgrading the springs? I can imagine going for a lift in the future, but I just bought new tires and I'd be looking to lift after another 25,000 miles or so... Could I ride around with the ARB and winch that long?

Ok, so you think I need the 790s for the front and the 948 for the rear?

I know I could hunt around the forums for a parts list, but could you point me towards a part list to beef up the springs and do a 2" lift?

It sounds like I need to do the lift at the same time that I add the bumper and winch.

Thanks!
