| Post subject: | KJ rear towhook |
I got a gastank skid and rear towhook for my girls KJ from a guy who took it off of his girlfriend KJ to install a receiver hitch! Anyways, I got the gas tank bolts from the dealer, which had loc-tite all over them and sucked to put in. I got a few extras to put the hook on. The hook bracket has 4 holes. It looks like 3 were used from the factory (this came off of a renegade kj). Unfortunatley there is no way to get a wrench up there to tighten the nut. Does anyone know if there is some type of nut strip for up there? Also, for people with renegades, are your rear hooks held on with only 3 bolts?? |

I dont have the rear hook but ive heard it only uses 3 bolts. I thought it went into the same holes as the gas tank skid? |

it uses two of the gas tank skid bolts. but then it has support going out on either side. one spot there is a hole, with no nut, and no way to get a wrench in, but maybe some nutstrip from the factory? I can tell from the paint not being scratched that on the other side where there is a hole, it doesn't get used. I'm probably going to put a self tapper in there. just want to know if there is a trick for the other bolt or something to buy from jeep?? |

Do you have this? You need it for one of the bolts so it will lock it down.

OK i am going to sound really stupid saying this. but which way would be better to mound more hooks on the front or the back, and can you get a bumper from the back to put new tow hooks on and maybe a whinch? |

The easiest (but probably not the cheapest) way is to get a rear tow hitch receiver. Then you can use that either as a recovery point, by using a shackle or hook adapter thing that fits in the receiver, or just by sticking a snatch strap into the receiver and securing it with the hitch pin. You can also get a winch in a cradle so it'll slip into the receiver. On the front, plenty of people have fitted hooks. Or get an ARB bull-bar that's got shackle tabs built in, or Rock Lizards bumper. Or a few people have fitted hitch receivers so you can use your "winch in a cradle" on the front as well as the back. Thanks that really helped.. i was looking at the back today.. and i think it would be harder mounting the hooks to the frame, than the gettin the receiver thing. thanks tho. later |
