I have been in Alaska touring just about everywhere we can drive including the Dalton Highway up to the Arctic Circle. During our travels up here I have seen a lot of Light Force brand off-road lights on everything from Saturn sedans to Semi trucks. I have never seen them before, but they are really plentiful up here. I talked with a guy that had them and he said that everyone has them because the special plastic lenses are nearly indestructible. There are a lot of gravel sections on the highways up here and glass lenses just don't make it. I have already been hit in the windshield and one of my light bar lenses is cracked all the way across. You can "tune" the light by turning the reflector kind of like a Maglight flashlight to get a broad or pencil beam. They also have interchangeable lenses of different color or to spread the light. They seem to be a pretty good idea. Anybody else had any experience with them? |

I had 4 on a different application, very pricey lights, but looked super good - they are styled rather differently depending on the light model and part of what your paying for is the styling and the name but that can be said for just about anything I never had any problems with lens's breaking, they had anti-vibration mounts, so late night slams off tree trunks and such didn't blow bulbs, never had any rock cracks etc they're quality lights, but like i said, $$ as little problems as things like hella black magics give, or even 500F's or hella lowball optilux give, if the style isn't what you're buying, and it's not a special application like below freezing temps 24-7 or frequent submersion, I personally can't justify the cost and I've never had a problem paying the dough for something I thought was remotely justifiable I think it's one of those personal choice things, shop them out, if they scream "I have to have this, and won't be happy with anything else" I'd suggest getting a set Nothing better than actually being satisfied with an investment |

Yep - I have a pair of the 170s. They are Australian lights and in addition to the plastic lenses, which are pretty indestructible - although they can get scuffed, the body is also an extremely strong polycarbonate plastic. This makes the unit very light in weight which helps in the mounting/vibration stakes! They also have very good water resistance if you have to ford - I believe from my recollection of the data sheet that there is a goretex membrane in there. If you want to spend the money, there is also an HiD version. The standard light is very bright, and as you say, the lens can be rotated similar to a maglite to change the beam from a spot to a flood. I have the drivers - side light on spot, and the other on wide. Like a mag, however, you can get a slightly dead area in the focus pattern. If this bothers you, there are a range of filters to clip on the front of the light. These filters can change the light distribution ( spot, wide, combo) and the colour (blue, yellow, orange etc) to suit driving in different conditions (fog, snow, etc). I'd recommend the lightforce wiring loom as well. The lights draw a fair amount of power, so you don't want to just splice them into your existing loom. As standard (and as is the law here) the switch cuts the lights out when you select low beam on your headlights. I believe that it is not too difficult to change that so that they come on whenever you want, but I haven't done that - I just don't need the grief from the police, either here or in Europe/Scandinavia, where they can hit you with SERIOUS on the spot fines! They DO light up the night, especially in snowy mountain passes! Makes the headlights (which I think aren't that bad) look definately feeble! All in all, I'd strongly recommend them as an excellent product - not cheap, but then very good stuff rarely is! |
