BAD vibes at 68-74mph.. 4.10 with ARB lockers.. got a new diesel KJ and swapped the rear axle over to the new KJ and the vibe followed onto the new jeep. any ideas? we had the R&P checked for proper backlash etc... are the axle shafts supposed to be balanced? what could cause this problem?

if it's already been discussed just link me, i looked but didn't see anything that would help me diagnose this vibe that followed me from jeep to jeep.

thanks

If you had the vib when the axle was in the other KJ then at least you know it's in the axle.I'd be checking the pinion bearings and make sure the rear driveshaft is "in phase".Try unbolting the driveshaft at the pinion yoke and rotate 180 degrees and bolt back up as see if that helps.

Did you happen to swap the rear driveshaft along with the axle? Did you happen to reinstall that axle dampening weight that can be found on the stock axles? How about a bent axle shaft, could that cause a vibration?

i was afraid you'd say that.... that axle is ARB locked, so we really didn't want the problem to be there.....

I spun the DS 90* and the vibe went down a little bit.. so i just spun it another 90*, but now we're too tired to test drive it. i think it's the DS... so we'll find out.

Drive shaft rotations did not help at all. The tires were on the new KJ and fine up until the axle swap. It's damned near unbearable between 70-80ish. Crap...

Yep time to have the diff gone through.I've got a 8.25 with the full setup if you want to swap parts out.I have the ARB,Yukon 4.10's,and Yukon HD axles. Will sell whole axle for a steal and your close enough to pick it up.It does have drum brakes but that is super easy to fix and the pinion yoke is the strap style(again super easy to change) since it came out of a '02.Zero vibs when it was still installed in my KJ.
