I have read that lots of people get the moab rim's. Is there a reason for it? The ones i seen look like stock wheels, big whoop. so i can only guess there is a wheelin aspect to it? is there? I would rather get something that looked better. :5SHOTS:

They have a backspacing that's better for fitting bigger tires on the liberty, that way you don't rub as much. Cragar soft 8's also have a good backspacing and I personally like the look of those better than the moabs. Don't know what your looking for, but there's a few people on here that have had the moabs powdercoated or simply rattle- canned them to better suit their tastes. Pro comp also has a good selection of rims with a good backspacing. I believe the moabs have a bs of 5" but I may be wrong. Someone else can correct me that's the case.

Well one not well-known fact is they are Forged alloy rims,a far bit stronger then cast alloy rims and hold up much better.

IIRC, the backspacing difference is only .25 inches ( 5 vs 5.25) but the same height tire is also marginally shorter due to being on a 16 x 8 vs 16 x 7 rim.

Many people like the look of a stockish rim vs. aftermarket bling, I think. That may be one reason?

I love em' cause they make our jeeps look so much bigger with the right tires and lift. Ive been looking on jeepforum to find a set. But you have to get the 16's, not the unlimited 17's which have the different bolt pattern.

Rubicon Moabs are popular cause they fit, because you can find them cheap from Rubicon owners who often upgraded their wheels, because they look significantly better than the stock liberty 5 spoke alloys.

All pretty good reasons, but if you don't like what you see, get what you want.

I grabbed a couple sets because I felt they are good looking rims that you could find really cheap on occasion and they usually included a perfectly sized, great tire for a lifted KJ.

Pretty much what they said above. I do not have any yet but am always shopping. *cough* there is a set of 5 in Bakersfield right now that I am eyeing. Just debating if the 8 hour drive is worth it.

I also read somewhere that the Moab rims were designed to reduce the possibility of blowing a bead when airing down, making them a true off-road wheel.

I really liked the Moabs are my flashy KJ, but I thought the 8” rim was too wide for my taste. I prefer a 7” rim for the liberty, so I sold them.

From my understanding, the bolt pattern is different.

Reason # 1 - they look really good
Reason # 2 - they are better than the stock rims for bigger tires
Reason # 3 - back in the day, most people could get them with new to fairly new GY Wrangler MTRs for awesome prices!

I got my five tires and wheels for $800 and they only had about 25 miles on them (the guy took his new Rubi to pump it with steroids straight from the dealer to an off-road shop).

Go ahead and price 5 new 245-75-16 MTRs and then add in the cost of the 5 Moab rims plus mounting/balancing etc.... A super sweet deal for those of us getting them from new Rubicon owners pumping their Rubis on steroids!
