Howdy,

I have several problems with my 2004 KJ 4x4 with MT and Select-Trac Transfer Case. I took my KJ out this weekend for some moderate wheeling. Had a blast, but noticed that my "Part-Time" Indicator and "4WD-Lo" Indicator do not light up on the I/P when I throw the shifter in their respective positions. I checked my FSM and this forum for possible solutions or even a place to start. I crawled underneath to do some inspecting and I find that the Transfer position sensor is very difficult to get at from below, even if I remove the transfer case skid plate. Has anyone replaced this? What's the best way?

So I'm inspecting everything (wiring, connector, etc.) and I start to look at things surrounding the transfer case and alas, I see the transfer case companion flange bolts are half in and half out. This is very strange, but no sign of grease splatter anywhere. I should also note that this occurred once before at like 2,000 miles and the dealer relubed and replaced the companion flange.

I'm now at like 66K miles and I'm having problems, but I believe I have the 7 year or 70,000 mile drivetrain warranty. I'm hoping both issues will be resolved via warranty. Anyone have any experience with the longer drivetrain warranty?

In any event, has anyone else noticed loose TS companion flange bolts?

Anyone else have the same indicator problems with a Select-Trac?

Could these two issues be related? Logically, it doesn't make sense that they are related, but it sure seems like a big coincidence.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in Advance.

You have a rare bird if you have the 242 transfer case (select trac) and not a 231 or 241 (command trac) and a MT (manual Transmision) as the select trac self-destructs if it is not attached to an automatic.

Jeep never put the 242 behind a manual trans in a KJ.

My mistake...my transfer case is "Command-Trac", not "Select-Trac" as mentioned in my original message.
