I dropped the fuel tank and removed/replaced all the hoses that I could and looked worn. The light stayed ON but then went out while driving good I thought I got it fixed, WRONG. After a couple of day driving the jeep it was all good and then My wife drove it to work and had to use the defrost then the light was ON again .I'm frustrated with this thing, I have replaced several hoses and the vehicle actually looks very good for a 2002 so I don't understand what is going on with this leak code. Any help appreciated. |

I had the same deal going on about 2 yrs ago. Open your hood and look to the rear of the engine near the fire wall. There are some more of the vent tubes there and that was where the last leak was found on my 03. Once I replaced those ones, cleared the code and it has been off ever since. If I think about it I go out and snap a pic at break time for ya. |

OK first pic shows the area as it is located on the firwall looking from the front of the engine bay: ![]() In this pic you can see the hard plastic lines going in to rubber lines that go down further to what I believe are metal line (I forget exactly) but it does not matter as it is these rubber joints or connections that are dry rotted and cracked thus causing your check engine to remain on for the same issue that you replaced all the lines back by the tank: ![]() This is just a closer view: ![]() Get those old rubber pieces off and replaced with new fuel hose or similar material and then reset the check engine light and it will not come back on for that same issue. Good luck pulling the old material off it was stuck on there really tight and there was not a lot of leverage room for pulling when I did mine. Take your time and it eventually pops off though. |

Thank You, the pics are great. I actually looked at this but never replaced them I just pushed them IN further. I replace a section of hose downstream from this same lines, I will replace this one as well this weekend and hope this time it does the trick. |

Yeah I couldn't believe it was those ones as they weren't cracked like the ones out back by the tank but sure emough it was them in the end. |

If you do pull them lines off and can get a razor blade in there just give them a slice down the middle where they meet the hard lines and pull them like your are pulling tape off and they should be a little easier to remove. |
