Pretty much what the title states...I occasionally see the 'Part Time' light flicker on/off when driving or at a stop. It doesn't feel like the transfer case is engaged, or trying to, so I assume the light is just the result of a switch going bad or maybe an adjustment that needs to be done(?).

Has this happened to anyone else, and what was the diagnosis?

Thanks -

I'm having the same problem, sorta. Mine is always on, and when I switch it to 4hi the light goes off. Very strange. I've got almost the same specs as you cept I'm auto :) I hope someone has an answer for this.

No one else has seen this? I didn't think this would be such a unique problem - especially for a vehicle driven on road 99.9% of the time.

If you read through the posts, you'll see that this is a very common problem. Apparently it is just a problem with the indicator light sensor on the tc shift linkage. You can replace it or just leave it alone and not hurt anything. Just make sure that you actually aren't in 4x4. When my light started staying on in 2x4, I drove onto a loose gravel lot and floored it a couple of times, then got out to see if I had spun the front wheels too. Just to make sure. :)

Actually I did several searches using a few different word combinations, but nothing related really came up.

Anyways, I know that 4wd isn't engaged, but I wasn't sure if the switch was at the lever, on the linkage underneath, or in the x-fer case itself. I'll check it out more closely when the weather gets a bit better, and see if a shot of ol' Wonder Drug-40 will help it out. Or, maybe I just need a new switch. Either way, thanks!

I haven't worked on the Liberty NV231 transfer case but I have worked on its older brother, the NP231 transfer case on a YJ.
On the YJ the 4WD was detected via a vacuum switch on the front axle. I suspect on the Liberty that it's within the 2WD/4WD selector within the Jeep. You should be able to pull up the console to access the switch.

By the way I did a quick search on Google and found this webpage detailing the transfer case.
http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/np231.htm

The sensor on the YJ transfer case is for the speedo. I'm not sure it's used on Libby.

I forgot about this thread...lol! Guess I've been busy...

I priced the switch at my local stealership and it was something rediculous - $230 +/- or thereabouts. So suddenly I became less bothered by the light being on...I know when it's in 4wd...
