I was dropping my front drive shaft and while under the vehicle i found two things. one the front is cv joints and the rear was u joints. was the rear changed to u joints from cv joints? I have to drop the exhaust and i was going to unbolt it at the crush / donut gaskets. The bolts are spring loaded and they are rusted in place. I cannot get them off. I was going to cut them off but the dealership wants $40.00 per bolt/spring. thats $160.00 for four bolts. They must be smoking crack. Is there cheaper bolts you guys use?

THANKS

The drive shaft is not stock. What year is your KJ? On my 04 the drive shaft will come out without removing the exhaust.

1. you should be able to get new crush gaskets etc plus bolts at autozone etc, the bolts themselves are pretty standard

2. i'm sort of confused on your driveshaft description, are you saying the front diff side of the front driveshaft is cv and the transfercase side of the front driveshaft is u-joints or are you saying the front drive shaft is cv and the rear drive shaft is u-joint

The year of the KJ is 2002. The front drive shaft has CV joints on each end. The rear drive shaft has a u joint on each end.

Oh, sorry I thought you were just talking about the front.

The rear drive shaft should have u-joints like yours. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

A MAP gas torch should be enough to heat the nuts red hot on the exhaust bolts. Get them glowing and you should be able to wrench them off without breaking the bolt. Just be careful not to set anything else on fire. This is what I usually do when disassembling exhaust and I'm 90% sure I did it when I had to remove my exhaust to replace the front driveshaft.
