Ok, I think I broke a rear shock and am looking for a replacement set. I have OME springs and a 3/8 top plate on my CRD. 21.5 inches from flare to center of hub. I just measured the Rancho RSX17004's I'm currently running. Compressed 17.75", Extended: 26.25" travel of 9.5" Option 1: Bilstein 5125 series, Model # F4-BE5-A465-H7 Specs on the shocks are: 11" travel with 255/70 Med/HD valving, 17" Collapsed, 28.01" Extended. Option 2: Bilstein 5125 series, Model # F4-BE5-6248-H5 Specs on these shocks are: 10.17" travel with 255/70 Med/HD valving, 15.11" Collapsed, 25.93" Extended. Option 1: looks like it would work without any issues. Should increase up and down travel. Option 2: seems to be the closest match to the Rancho's I have on there now, I'm leaning toward Option 1. Comments, suggestions, analysis? |

1st you want to measure your total rear travel, getting both the compressed and extended lengths and then go from there. You want at least 1/2"-1" of shock travel in either direction(extended and compressed) then your total travel to avoid damaging the shocks. Oh and one last thing the 255/70 valving may be a little to soft for you as you basically have the same weight in the rear as I do(you maybe 100lbs or so lighter).I have that valving in my rear Bilstein's and they are a bit soft, next year I'm having them re-valved to the nexct stiffer setting as my 7100 series shocks are re-valveable. |

Thanks Troy, I'm pretty sure I broke my current Durango shock before I installed the bump stops. I bottomed out a couple of times pretty hard. So now I have two hockey pucks in and no issues bottoming out the shock anymore, a bit too late. I don't think I need any additional length in compression. Will having an additional 2" of compression hurt anything? Might mean I can remove one of hockey pucks and be able to stuff the tires a little more. On the extension side of it, the rear is limited today by the flexibility of the suspension and the length of the shock. So an additional 1.75 inches should allow the axle to extend lower, giving more chance of keeping a wheel on the ground where it can do some good. Sound reasonable? |

I agree with the valving, tried a set and they were too soft for me. Also when flexing make sure to take into consideration the brake lines, if you have longer ones not a problem, but I know that's where I have problems and have to watch flex at. |

They don't offer any heavier options in valving for the 5125's. Good point on the brake lines, I'll take a look and see how much slack at full extension I have. |

Here you go..................... http://www.offroadwarehouse.com/products/sfID1/12/sfID2/156/sfID3/809/productID/39239 Those should work for you, virtually same specs as the Rancho's and you can choose your valving(6 choices),rebuildable and re-valveable also. Oh and it is some what of a long wait(3-4 weeks normally) as the 7100 series shocks are hand built to specs, not on any shelf pre-made. |
