Rebuilt CVs from NAPA ( only ones I would use ) are 55 bucks around here with core
replacing one is a hour job at most

best route to go

also called a inner axle shaft # 5066057AB I think , not near my books right now :?
Check Eric though I know Morris 4X4 wants like 190 or so

Ok, well I'll add this to my 100K maintenance coming up next month. Might as well do it all at the same time.

Is the front axle on the KJ a c-clip style axle? or can you just slide the CV shafts out without opening the front diff?

How high are you from middle of wheel to bottom of flare?
Just curious suspension wise I wouldn't think it would be topping out the shock
I mean everyone is running the same length front shock, only difference is the CRDs can't go as high as the gassers.
just wondering :?

You can slide them in and out, you do not have to open the front diff
They do have a small clip on each end but when you see it you'll wonder what it really does. The pics I posted you can sort of see the one clip.
Need to take better pics when I'm not shaking from withdraw :5SHOTS:

So do I NEED this:

http://jeepinbyal.com/prod-Inner_Axle_Kit-693.aspx

Or can I just order the inner shaft alone?

Also, what specifically goes bad on these to make em vibrate?

I do believe that you only need the inner shaft. But I could be wrong.

Happened to me back in December.

Get the remanufactured one! They use the old OEM cores, and have a better chance of being the right size. A lot of the new ones that you can buy are not the right length. I saw this myself when I helped a friend change his. We put the old one and the new one next to each other, and the new one was definitely shorter. :?
Get remanufactured. Otherwise you might be replacing them again sooner than you'd like to.

Well Eric has no more intermediate shafts. :( So now it looks like $170 is the lowest price I can get it for online.

Man..I really wish there was a way to know for SURE that the intermediate shaft is causing my vibes...

Eric doesn't have any more?
Strange just ordered one yesterday for stock ( to throw up on the shelf  )
he just listed them in the vendors section also yesterday
If you have checked everything else more than likely thats what it is, but then again who knows until you get in there
Good thing about it, it's a real easy job to do.

Yeah I called this morning...Eric wasn't in but I asked for him. They said they used to have the shafts, but don't have anymore of them. Hmm..

Ok so I ended up getting the intermediate shaft from Eric, and a remanufactured CV shaft from NAPA. Changed it out today and it was a PITA. Had a veteran mechanic helping me and it took well over an hour. Ended up having to remove upper and lower ball joints, clevis, etc. and set the entire spindle aside and then work the old shaft out. intermediate shaft was frozen to the CV shaft. Then, trying to put it all back together was a pain and when we finally got it buttoned up, the lower ball joint wouldn't tighten up. Keep spinning even with lots of pressure on the spindle. Had to torch it for a while to get it to thread on up while it was red hot. Would NOT EVER want to do this job on the trail. Geezus... I've never see a CV shaft so hard to change out in my life. My buddy could do both sides of his Tacoma faster than I could get one side of this KJ apart. Even the garbage GM puts out is easier to work on than this.

But... at least it's done. Will road test it tomorrow to see if the vibration is gone. I sure hope so cause I'm running out of possibilities. Gosh we wrenched on this thing for 8 hours today (timing belt, fuel filter head, etc.). Just Empty Every Pocket.

I haven't had a chance to get it on the interstate yet, and this morning it was raining, windy, and cold so it was hard to tell on my way to work...but I think that the vibration is still there. If so, I'll be ticked.

All driveshaft joints are fine, tires/wheels are NOT the cause, CV axle/i-shaft is new, so that only leaves the driver's side CV as a possibility... unless something is going on inside the transmission which is possible but unlikely.

I'll try to run it out on the interstate today and see if the vibes are definitely still there or not.

Vibration is still there.

My intermediate shaft was frozen to the CV shaft when we pulled it out. Replaced it with a new I-shaft and new CV shaft and greased the splines real good...put it all back together...and the vibration is still there. It starts around 55 MPH and sometimes gets worse the faster you go.

Don't know what else it could be. The only part of the driveline that hasn't been touched is the driver's CV shaft.
