Post subject:  Service Manuals

So I almost won 4 service manuals for the 02 KJ today. Since I didnt win, I have been looking at the other manuals they have for sale. Is the Haynes Service Manual as good as the Chrysler issued manual?

Being a technician as a living I have used both. The haynes manuals are good for most projects they use simple terms and a lot of pictures but they can skip a lot of useful in depth details depending on how skillfull you are the haynes are ok for around $20. The Factory service manuals are generally around $100-200. The manuels that I like are the CHILTONS manuals around same price or a bit more than haynes but better info in them from a technicians stand point. If you have the $ to spend go with factory manuals.

I got all 6 Factory Service Manuals for the 2002 about 2 weeks ago from ebay, they are showing up alot lately for the 2002-2004 years. I got a great deal on them, so I say just keep checking ebay. I was not pleased at all with the Haynes. I have not looked at the Chilton's for the KJ though, so I don't know if it's good or not.

What do you mean by "all six service manuals?" Are they broken down into sections?

The Service Manual is the main one, it's about 2 inches thick. I also got the body diagnostic procedures (d.p.), powertrain d.p., transmission d.p., chassis d.p., and the service manual supplement for the 2.4L 4 cylinder. I got them all shipped to my door for $40.24.

Alright thanks guys. I will look into the Chilton's but I realy want the in-depth details. Looks like the factory manual is what I need.
