Muffler Recommendation

Did some mild wheelin' yesterday:

Unfortunately the low-hanging stock muffler found a submerged rock, resulting in this damage:

Exhaust now leaks from the damaged joint. In terms of a replacement muffler, it would be nice to have something lower profile that tucks up higher for maximum clearance. Any recommendations??

First of all...........NICE KJ .

I have seen your jeep pic on one of the vendors sites, Rocky Road maybe ? Anyway it looks really nice in the silver I was
almost temped to paint mine but being black would have been a chore .

My muffler is leaking as well and I have to change for something smaller that will be up and out of the way. I have been told by mant to avoid the larger OEM or aftermarket mufflers because they are prone to damage from off road use.

Jeepin Al has a small compact solution , but he admits that it is really loud . Loud I could do without for sure. Anyway, I am going to attempt a smaller substitute this week and will let you know the results if it works out .

BTW is the ARB bumper worth the money? I ordered mine last Friday along with a noslip Powertrax and a skyjacker lift . I have a 2002 prelowered jeep , so I expct a total lift of 3.5" . I know this is above the 2.5 limit most say our jeep can handle, but Jeepin AL advised me how to deal with the CV joints. I hope he is right??

One last thing. I want a wider stance for the wheels and was thinking about the 1 " spacers. I'm not sure about the spacers, I'm thinking they could be a weak link especially off road. Do the Rubicon wheels give the same effect where they have a positive offset of 3 3/4 " ?

You might check the Magnaflow 40 series, I read somewhere on here they give more clearance than the stock. I have not seen it myself in person so I can not verify.

The Flowmaster 50 series SUV will give a little extra clearance and take a lot of abuse on the rocks. Sounds pretty good on the KJ too, but maybe on the loud side to some.

I think the ARB is worth the money. Chemguy has a Skyjacker lift with the ARB and it looks goot. The Moabs give a wider stance.

Definitely -- for three reasons:

1) There is simply not a better looking bumper out there! -- IMHO :lol:

2) Functionally it is extremely durable -- able to take an amazing beating from rocks, trees, etc., and gives the winch a rock solid platform.

3) Gives much improved front tire clearance at the front of the well.

The best Flow / sound I've ever achieved is just mounting two straight tube glass packs in line with each other. Its slim lined, tough, and has good sound and fairly quiet.

One turbo, one glass pack is even quieter. Three straight tube cherry bomb types is better than that.

Its super cheap too.

Nothing you spend your big $$$$ on will out perform it either !!!!!

I hope you are right about the glass packs because I just informed my muffler guy to install two in line . I don't mind a little rumble but loud is just unacceptable. I'll post the results in a couple of hours .

Everyones taste is diff. You might want to go with the mini turbo and bullet.

The reason (my opinion) it sounds "goofy" like edwin says is because the mufflers just don't tame down the sound of 6 cyls unless you run two of them on one pipe or duel exhaust. One muffler just cant achieve harmony with the firing of six cyls because they were only made to harmonize four 4cyls.

I would run the longest bullets he has. and it will take a few days optimize sound.

Flowmaster 40 series. I love mine. It is loud but that thing has taken a beating and will not break! The Flowmaster mufflers are skidplates!

I don't use this setup on my liberty because I like it "Game Warden" quiet.

The 40 series is the loudest. I think you can go all the way up to a 80 series though.

Well, I'm back from the muffler shop with two glass packs replacing the stock muffler . It is louder
than the stock for sure, and I'll describe the sound from the cabin as throaty . At low speeds, during excelleration, and while on back pressure it is loudest . At a 60 MPH cruise it is about the same as before because the wind noise drowns out the growl . I'll run it for a week and see if I can live with the noise and report back .

There is no way I will hook these bullets, so from a off road perspective it is much better . Being tapered is an advantage for sure .

I have a Flowmaster 40 Series in mine ( I like the rumble ) but you can use the Delta Flow if you want the performace without the noise. And it's BEEFY. I drop it on rocks all the time... no worries.

It cost 159.00 CDN tax in which is about 135.15 USD .

It will sound diff in about 3 days, more smooth and mellow. They won't hook as easy like you said. A mini-turbo would have made it quieter.

BUT I AM SORRY TO SAY MY FRIEND THAT YOUR MUFFLER IS MOUNTED UPSIDE DOWN. LOOK AT THE PICTURE AGAIN. THERE IS PLENTY ROOM TO SPIN IT AROUND AND TUCK IN UNDER YOUR TRUCK. BELIEVE IT!
