The last time I was out riding (2/05) I slid sideways into a tree. It hit on the rear passenger door and rubbed along and popped off the fender flair. Take a look at what was underneath the flair. It made me think with a little cutting the wheel well could be opened up a little. Has anyone done this? It seems that if done it would help on the tire stuffing up in there. Terry

The flare that is on the back door can be trimmed on the inside if you need more clearance there, will depend on your tires, wheels, backspacing and lift. You won't be able to trim the door itself to get more clearance as that would mess it up big time. You can also trim approximately 1/2" off of the inside of the rear flare where it extends beyond the metal of the wheel well if you need a little more stuffing clearance. Some have rolled the inner edge of the wheel well, all depends on how much clearance you need. |

Terry, take another look at my wheelwell mods in the fab section, the end of the thread is where I cut the rears. I cut on the front of the wheelwell and this summer ( in between all the other stuff I got going! ) I plan on taking those rears all the way up to the tub at the top of the arch. There is about an inch and a half that can come out if you have access to a welder and tools. It can be cut out to that vertical bend. After that you actually get into the wheelwell tub itself and that's a whole 'nother can of worms! |
