Went to the Superlift Park in Hot Springs, AR this weekend for MidSouth Jeeps one year anniversary trail ride and cookout. Everyone was impressed with the Liberty's handling and off-road prowess in spots that even TJs needed help. But soon enough reality hit in. Friday and Friday night trail rides went great and so did Saturday mornings. HOWEVER!!! Saturday afternoon whilst climbing a steep hill along the Power Wagon Point trail I got the front wheels airborn and when they came back down the front diff imploded. Cracked in half thus losing 4wd for good. Before I could even open the door after hearing the KAPOW!!! the fluid had already leaked all the way out towards the door.

I took it out of 4wd and reversed out of the trail and made it back to camp slowly. Upon arrival I started taking the front driveshaft off so I would be able to drive home today without the front diff gears causing the driveshaft to lock up for whatever reason and thus making the t-case get damaged as well. Taking the Jeep to the dealer tomorrow morning. They happen to be the Jeep Clubs sponsor too. Hopefully they'll treat me well under warranty. Just broke 22,000 miles too. Was able to drive home at around 70mph too from Hot Springs to Memphis...say a prayer the dealer is kind....laters...

So I guess this means you are out for next weekend?
Just Joking ,that sucks at least you got home
I plan to ride with the "hard group" this weekend so I may need help getting home

Let me know what your plans are for November
We still plan to ride that weekend and there should be a real good turn out
It looks like only around 50 rigs for this weekend but next month I would guess close to 100
so lots of people to wach

Aw, man! I'm sorry to hear about the diff failure.

They should replace that under warranty. Fight it with all you got. It's designed for 4WD use; I understand the physics behind this, but c'mon, differentials shouldn't just crack like this.

This collar MIGHT prevent the case from cracking. I don't think it's been proven, yet!

A cracked differential case might look like this.

no they shouldnt. Crappy engineering on DC's part when they designed it. Hopefully they were all fired.

UPDATE::

The dealer is repairing it under warranty. Get this though, originally it was gunna take 5-7 business days to get the part to Memphis and they were not going to give me a loaner or rental car. However they said for $100 it could be shipped quicker so you wouldn't be w/out your Jeep for longer then you have to...WTF?!?!?! Thus I called the Chrysler Customer Service # in the warranty book and told them what the dealer said about the part could be there quicker and they were like "WTF, they are crazy to say that to a customer. It's about getting the customer back on the road as soon as possible. Did they offer you a rental car?" Well no they wouldn't give me one if thats what your asking I did ask if they would since I have work and have school. "Well they are in trouble now, because of what they said I'll make darn sure they get you a rental car and that its for the duration of the time they are repairing it and they fill it up for you. Make sure to leave it empty too when you turn it in to them too."

So now I'm getting the part hopefully by Wed. and the Jeep repaired before the weekend. Not to mention a free rental car for the week. YIPPEE

So I hope to talk to SHEENA again sometime if another issue ever comes up. Oh and you guys ask for her too if you need something done for ya....

Let's hope they rent from Enterprise and get a KJ. You can tear it up in the Wolf River Bottoms and get it stuck! "yeah, see this dot on the map? it's here, you can get it any time"

When I picked up JL Audio's demo expedition (The Flexpedition) the rear end broke loose (could been dead) somewhere in MFN, MO. The parts were going to take a week to come in so I was stuck in MO until they came. When I told them I felt I was entitled to a car they smiled and said "you should have bought the Navigator then".

Sorry to hear about the diff letting go. That really sucks. How much skinny pedal were you giving it? I am curios if you have to give it a lot, or if even a little hop in the front end with light pedal will cause the implosion. Glad you could drive it home. Also glad the dealer didn't give you crap about the bigger and heavier MTR tires. Let us know how it turns out.
