only REALLY need to re-gear if you get 265-75...but you can if you want, knowing your about the same age as i am, its not cheap to re-gear

Yeah the re gear is going to cost a ton... :| however it may be needed. With everything on it now, the lift wheels and tires coming, and everything else planned my mileage will SUCK :dizzy: So really it should pay itself off after a couple months. Man gas prices suck

Running the lift, 245/75/16, added weight of such items (and about to add more) i'm running right at 14 MPG and it just has started going up due to the warmer weather.

Yesterday part 1 of 3 for the lift came in. Here's what was in the box!

While it doesn't look like much, it was all I could afford this month. Next month will be the springs. Then finally the shocks in may.
Now my only concern is that the box was somewhat squished when I got it... bits of sand were on the iso's... should I worry about this? Or just wipe them off and be happy?

Welcome to the Jeep world. Fun to drive lifted KJ's but you pay the price in MPGs.
$50 didn't fill my KJ up.

You don't save that much in mileage by regearing... it would take a very long time to make that money back in fuel savings. :| Even at these prices.

As much as I drive, I would get my moneys worth real quick.
Still debating on whether I should re-gear or not. GAH!!!! :dizzy: :juggle:

Coopa:
If you drive ALOT and I mean ALOT then you would get your moneys worth in no time.
Wouldn't do it just because.

BTW, can't wait to see your KJ when it's lifted! :JEEPIN:

you go to lower gears for several reasons, getting better mileage is not one that I even thought of. I wanted more power, better drivability etc. More mileage is just an afterthought

Also.....
Just because they are "Listed" as such, your tires are not even 31" ..... If YOU go to 4:10's you're going to lose MPG's..... Well more than likely.....

If your KJ has the 3.73s, regearing will be a waste of money and time because you can only go .37 lower maximum. The KJ isn't like the solid axle Jeeps where you can go 4.56 or 4.88 and actually see significant improvement. Most people going from 3.73 to 4.11 in the KJ won't even know it happened. If you do, you must have a 6th sense.

I gained over 6 mpg's when I regeared to 4.10's and running 265/75's,trans shifted better, and overall performance was greatly improved.I recouped my investment in less then a year in gas savings alone.Regearing to 4.10's with 31" tires will not reduce mpg's either.

Oh and spend a few extra $$$ and you can go as low as 4.88's in a IFS KJ.

So 4:10s are better suited than 3:73s for 30.5" tires... :?:

Yes when you also add in all the weight in your sig also.

WOOHOO I have a 6th sense
