Im getting ready to get some skids. Im having a difficult time deciding between Skid Row and ASFIR aluminum jobs. Ultimately the Steel skids will be stronger, the aluminum lighter. I understand as a whole the lighter I can keep my truck the better my mileage will be. That said what are your opinions as to whether this would really make any difference over all. That and if there are any people out here with the ASFIR units maybe you could comment on them overall? Thank you. |

I don't think the weight dif. is an issue. Having a choice and as long as aluminum skids are made with a sufficient thickness material and type/series of aluminum, I'd go with aluminum. Never have to worry about a rust factor. |

Aluminun skids would have cost me over $10,000 in parts(engine,trans,t-case),and yes those are the SkidRow plates in the below pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you actually plan on taking it offroad I'd go with steel. My new belly pan/skid is 1/2" thick overall, two 1/4" plates, heavy but protects better. |

Steel is good, but it's a matter of preference. Some of the 2000 series aircraft aluminum is just as strong as steel as far as shear and tensile strength, but if you've got to go sliding over rocks, find another route or maybe get an old military tank. |

Aluminum is good as foil not for skids and perhaps Southwest Airlines. |

Mine is a daily drive with Asfir skids and it will be going to moab later next month so we shall see how they hold up. Went down a few old rail road beds a few days before so excuse the dull look. ![]() |

Thanks TJ. Great pics. Steel it is. Would you suggest I should get the front along with the tranny and t-case skids? I was thinking about only the trans and T-case. |
