It happened the same way as most of them.... Tires spinning freely in the air - KJ comes down onto front tires, take grab of the ground and first thing it goes crack is the Front Diff Is there anything going with DC trying to fix this problem? As temporary fix, therewas a thread a while ago about re-inforcing the front diff: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... al&start=0 just want to share EDIT: BakerKJ was the victim - not mine - sorry - should have been more specific. |

I'm on that collar site. Should galvanic corrosion be entering my head to figure out which one I should get, or not a concern? The case is aluminum-and they make one in aluminum? I was going to go with steel. |

My only concern with putting a steel collar on is the it could (highly unlikely) seize to the aluminium housing. So it could make things difficult if you ever (no reason I can think of) have to take it off. |

Can we get all the specs and a write up on this collar to include testimonials as to how and why it "works" the collar itself, modifications to same, and price and place to get it in the Tech section. |

If you paint the collar well before installing it, I doubt you'll have to worry about any galvanic action. A little loctite or never-sieze on the fasteners.. something to prevent them from locking and you're all set. |

But would that collar make any difference when opening up the diff to put in a locker or gear swap? |

I don't think the diff housing is supposed to open up at the place where the collar goes around it, the idea is that it's a solid piece of cast Aluminium. You get at the gears for locker/re-gearing installation at the other end, so even if (worst case scenario) it corroded and seized on there then it wouldn't matter since there's no reason to ever take it off. |

Of course, the collar is a theoretical solution at this point, and it will be very difficult to validate its effectiveness...but I think it's worth a shot. If we got 20 or 30 of us to install them and none of us managed to grenade a diff for a year or two, that might be pretty strong evidence that it works. |

this collar can't hurt anything and for $20 or $30 I am willing to try it out... I think the big thing here is conservative driving style, perhaps low and slow is the only way to get through this untill someone figures out what we need to do swap in the GC's AAM front axle. |

Do you have a front locker? Sorry to hear about the breakage. Thankfully Jeep is stepping up and covering it. |
