Post subject:  Inner axle shaft issues

So the wife comes back home this am and drops off the Liberty, says something in the front is growling, grabs the keys to the truck and leaves to go work.

Being somewhat intrigued, I wait a couple of hours. Go out, take it for a test drive and before I can get out of the driveway its growling like I'm between a mother bear and her cub! So I pull out our trail rig out of the garage and pull in the Jeep. Start looking things over and ..........sure enough I see the passenger side cv axleshaft flopping around.

So I tear into it and find out I need a new socket to remove the axle shaft nut.......darn a trip to the parts store for more tools :) Anyhow, I pull out the axle shaft and find the splines are a bit messed up. Not bad on the cv axleshaft but the inner axleshaft is really messed up.

So, my question is this...........where can I find a new inner axleshaft (hopefully not from the dealer-already asked them-got a price and place that has one)? Would a parts store have this or JBA?

If I understand right, this is caused by the lift and the axleshaft is not long enough?

Alright KJ community...........I need some help with this. The wife does not like driving the truck and wants her jeep back :banghead:

Pretty normal really
Not sure how many miles you have on yours, but mine lasted over 115,000 miles (lifted) so while it may have some effect being lifted its more of a wear issue on all KJs.
Not sure if they have them in stock currently but check with Vince @
Automotive Parts Unlimited in Lakewood NJ
732-042-5551
800-270-5224
vince@autopart@aol.com
I picked up two for stock back in February for 65 each. # AX-84270

Oh and I would throw a new ( well remmaned) CV in there as well
go to NAPA and get one of their remanned ones. Stay away from Autozone and those crappy places as theirs are sometimes too short

Thanks guys for the info and help. I was able to find the part a local wrecking yard the next day and was able to get the rig back on the road.

While checking the threads ( I thought I saw someone had mentioned this problem before) I saw the thread on the CV shafts from different part stores. So yes, I did get a new one from NAPA.

Vince, I will keep your number in case something else comes up. Thanks again for your help
