Has anyone built their own winch mount?

It seems that one could be built for next to nothing with a couple pieces of angle iron attached at the same mounting points that front receiver hitches are attached to. The angle iron would extend through the bumper and a winch mounting channel would be bolted to the angle iron.

This seems very simple and could be accomplished without welding.

keep in mind there could be up to 9000lbs of force behind that winch before it stalls. imagine 2 and 1/2 libbys hangin from a home made (non welded) winch mount.

when things under that much pressure let go, very bad things usually happen

plus, when you figure in the cost of parts, you really arent too far from a front hitch. then you just need a winch on a hitch mount tray
