HI, I'm new to this forum.
Question about tires:
I drive on rough gravel a lot (Deschutes river roads) and have gotten several flats. Repair guy suggested 8 or 10 ply tires.
Could some of you guys recommend some tires?
Where can I find out info about 8 or 10 ply tires?

I drive a Liberty, lifted with Daystar 2.5"
Also Dodge Ram 1500 with 17"wheels

Thanks

BFGoodrich is a great company to go by. Their All-Terrain KO was a great tire that I used for a while. I now have the Mud-Terrain TA's and they are insanly great. The All-Terrain is cheaper and comes in a 8 and 10 ply. Another favored tire here is the Bridgestone Duler Revo. I have seen them in action and I found that BFGoodrich gave more traction for what I wanted to do with the KJ. Hope this helps!

Nothin I can't crawl with MTRs (Goodyear). See avatar,

The 245/75/16 is a 10-ply, intended for large trucks. The tread is obnoxious, but effective. I easily average 55K miles on a set, rotating every oil change. With a sidewall that stout, you get a more rigid ride. I adjust the air pressure for my goals, which vary weekly

The other sizes are typically 6-ply, but even that sidewall is tough to puncture. A good shopper can find the 10-ply for around $165 per tire.

I agree with Itwgs. The MTR is a killer tire but isn't that great for highway driving. My choise is the new Wrangler that Goodyear just came out with. Its available in 6,8 or 10 ply. Its also reinforced with kevlar to take impacts better and to make the sidewalls more puncture resistant. Look for a tire that starts with a LT instead of a P.

I have 8ply Revo's and they are the roundest smoothest tire I have ever owned. They also grip quite well on most surfaces. I had several students recommend them to me because they have the least balance issues with them at the tire stores they work at. 265/75/16 is the size but I would probably go smaller if I had it to do again. I don't regret it but the gas mileage sucks!

I LOVE my BFG's (AT KO - see signature). I drive about 18k/year on my KJ. I have 10k so far on my BFG's and I love them on and off road. I was impressed with how well the handle on road. Off road, well, I'M IN LOVE! (But it's my first true off road tire so I'm like a virgin who married his first, umm, ride :D )
