I just tore another front passenger CV boot. It is an 02 with a Frankenlift. Anyone have any ideas how to lower the lift a little in the front? Whenever I see a lifted liberty in person or in pics it seems that my CV axel has much more of an angle then most. Never have problem with Cv itself, just the boot, It rubs on itself due to angle and eventually wears thru. Any thoughts? I might take the lift out and give to my wife and I realy dont want to drive her focus. Thanks all |

Trade the KJ for a Focus  I'm no expert but what type springs did you get for the front? 927 or 790? Do you have a aftermarket front bumper and winch? Did you do a clevis lift along with the  ? How long have you been running the lift? Did you add a 1/4 or 3/8 top strut plate? You could do away with the clevis, go to smaller top strut plate or remove it. Like I said, I am NO expert. Just thought I'd try to help until someone more knowledgable chimes in. Good luck man.

When the CV is installed how does the boot look? I had to adjust mine to get a nice looking and functional one. Perhaps you just have to adjust it. I had a boot come apart less than a week old. Still waiting on my core and warranty refunds though.

I still say the aftermarket boots are trash. Just by feeling them you can tell they aren't even in the same league as the OEM boots. |

We've had a couple torn boots, but CV angle never caused it. Napa has replacement boots and clamps, not to difficult to repair. |

All, Not sure what the popcorn thingy above means, maybee someone could explain. I would bet a lot of money that the boot wears thru because it rubs on itself and I am to the point were I check it at least every other day.I can follow as groove gets deeper and deeper. I do at least 1-2 hundred miles a day (sometimes more for work) I was/am convinced until tommudd posted pics of his on another thread I started after this one died out. His are just as angled as mine so now i'm second guessing myself. This will be my 5th time. Each time I had whole axle replaced as most shops around here won't do just boot. By time you pay labor to redo the boot its the same cost to just replace. The last two times I had a guy who works full time at a front end shop do on side in his garage/shop (fairley cheep). I am trying to get someone in NJ to do with me so I know how and have right tools because I know it will happen again soon. Had a buddy that was going to do with me but do to pending devorce he is longer allowed in his own garage. As for Xodius post, on one boot I did take the smaller clamp off and pull the boot down a little more on axle shaft and tightened with a small hse clamp-I think it helped a little. As for the popcorn, just means I was sitting back and watching Been through this all and you come back to ask the same question for the third time. You are an inch and a half lower than what I am, not even close to the same angles, you are lower than most all that I have done and none of them have had problems except when a boot was pinched when installing it. We understand the frustration you're going through but your height and the Frankenlift is not the problem. Never did post where you are buying the CVs from, that could possibly be the issue, also how long, type of roads, if you keep the boots clean, ( some never wash underneath and dirt and grime gets in the folds) |

I went through 2 or 3 Rockford CV boots and they all were junk. They are very soft compared to the OEM boot. Everyone has an opinion about them though. I just agree with LCD. |

I will be replacing passenger side axle in the next week or so. I convinced a mechanic at work to let me do with his tools and his supervision so if/when it happens again I will have the tools and be able to do on my own. He is the same guy who helped me do lift years ago. That time I was more of the beer runner this time I will be doing the work. Wondering what peoples thoughts were as to where/what type of axle to get and any tricks to putting it all back to gether assuring that I do not pinch the new boot. I have read lots on here on Napa type rebuilts and the horrors of "new" ones being to short. Do JBAs have same boots as others, anyone make one with "heavy duty" boots? Just noticed hole in muffler, looks like Ill be doing that also. 210K, 2nd motor- Not giving up yet Thanks to all God Bless America and all those in uniform-Don't forget what this day is about. |

i ripped mine a little and used an A + B compound i got from pepboys. made for rubber and it worked just fine. havent had any issues since. |

Thanks LL, Really looking for thoughts on replacement axles though. After I put new/remaned in I may attempt boot replacement on the one I take out that way I have the next one ready. Any info on axle thoughts would be appreciated. Ive read some stuff about new ones being too short and have also read some people have thoughts on which ones have perhaps better boots than others. |

I know some think they are crap but I've never had any problems with NAPAs. I've only had to replace the right side in mine at about 135,000 miles ( now over 155,000) but it is holding up well. Replaced some for others with NAPAs and no problems. Of course I always wrap a rag around the boot when installing it etc and take the time to make sure there are no ways for it to get torn. A lot of how long its going to last is right there in the install. |

Tommudd, On NApa web site they have 2 reman'd and 1 new. Each on is a different "compressed length" under an 02. I know I bought a previous from them in store and they just asked the year and side. nothing about length. Why would they have different lengths? thanxs as always. |

The left and right sides are different lengths, and I believe the CRD Driver's side is different than the gasser |

It didn't say anything about CRD and all three were for same side. I will be stopping at store and see what they say in person |
