| Post subject: | 4wd selector moves but 4wd high remains engaged |
Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Liberty, 3.7 L, automatic, Command-Trac So I had my '07 Liberty in 4WD High (part time) and when I went to switch back to 2WD the selector moved no problem and the Part Time light shut off immediately. The Jeep felt the same however. I looked under the Jeep while my friend let it roll forward in drive and the driveshaft leading to the front differential moves. Am I right in assuming this means the 4WD is still engaged? As of right now I can physically move the selector to 2WD, 4 HI, and Neutral. The selector feels normal. Neutral works if that makes any difference. I didn't try 4 LO as I didn't want to risk it getting stuck in that. When I crawled under the car I found that the transfer case appears to be leaking at the point where the shift linkage attaches. The shift linkage moves when my friend switches from 2WD to 4 HI on the selector. Any ideas? I'd appreciate any advice. |

I'm totally off base with that front driveshaft comment. Its obviously going to spin since it connected to the front diff. Still, I can't feel it disengage. I suppose to be sure i can raise the vehicle and see which wheels spin. |

And it seems to be working properly without me changing anything. Strange experience. |

If you don't know how long it's been in there, Change the fluid that's my best advice. |

If it was still in 4, you'd feel feedback in the wheel when turning at slow speeds on pavement. If the lever is down, chances are it's in 2.....levers work 1 billion times better than any other method of engaging 4!! Be happy you don't have a vehicle with a button that goes to a bunch of computers and makes a little electronic motor shift it for you!! |
