I put ome 790 springs on the front of my Crd and now when I hit the smallest of bumps I get a thump on the drivers side floorboard. I havent got a alignment done yet scheduled for in the morning. I can really tell I need an alignment to cause it follows every indention in the road and it didn't do that before. Any help would be great just hate to tear back into it if I dont need to

Alignment first
but at the height you have it for a CRD its more than likely the UCA hitting the spring, with stock arms even makes it worse
of course if you have to lower it then its back to the alignment shop

I drop the Clevis down to stock I think if I measured right it is about 22.25 to 22.5 is that better on height. The only other thing I can do is take the top plate out from als. I got the 790s so if I decided to put a winch on it wouldn't kill me

Well you really need the 790s anyways with the CRD
I'd try it now since you lowered it and have the alignment done

I took the Clevis lift off and I'm going to stick with it til my alignment is done and see what happens

After alignment
Driver side Pass side
Cam-0.6. -0.7
Caster 2.8. 2.5. In red
Toe 0.08. 0.05.
Total toe 0.13
Steer ahead -0.03
How does that sound. Seemed ok but it is maxed out there is no more adjustment. I still have a thumping in my floorboard though

Ok the thumping is driving me nuts guys. No play anywhere. Alignment guy said d side upper joint has some play. No catch in the cvs and no marks where anything is hitting. What else can it be. Maybe the stabilizer bar links not being long enough? It's not effecting anything it's just driving me crazy. It has started to do it now with smaller bumps. Dang it :banghead:

Most gassers lifts are higher than yours and same sway bar links so thats not it
Sure its not the spring hitting the UCA?

x2

I had the same problem until I fitted JBA 4.5 then all the knocking stopped.

There is no contact anywhere. Maybe the a-arms will make it stop

Hi,
Best way to check is to lift the KJ up letting the front Wheels fully extend, if you are looking at the front with the Wheels on the ground you never see any contact as the weight compresses the springs. Jack it up, let the front shock extent fully (Wheel of the ground), check both sides as on mine it did it on one side only. I am pretty sure you will find that it's knocking somewhere specially if you still have the OEM UCA.

I have lifted it up with tires dangling and there is no contact anywhere. It almost sounds if something is loose and banging into place when I hit the bump. But I've loosen and retorqued everything 5 times

Figured it out. Shackle was twisted enough to put it in a bind. Ground off the notch and no more noise

Shackle? Can you elaborate please?

I am assuming he meant the clevis
which means he didn't assemble them right in the first place
but ya know what they say about assuming........

Ah yes,

Must tighten the clevis pinch bolt last (wheels on ground) so as not to inadvertently put the spring under and twisting pre-load. But what notch did he grind away?

Post subject:  Re: Thumping noise after lift

Yes I'm talking about the Clevis. Somehow I got them twisted enough that the Clevis wasn't sitting straight in the strut. On the stock strut there is a ridge that runs up and down that keeps Clevis from spinning all the way around. I ground that off and it quit thumping like it was. Sorry for confusion and yes Tom I screwed up on assembly
