Anybody compressed OME 790 HD springs with spring compressors (the screw type) and live to talk about it. I have to do it on mine and I was thinking about using 4 compressors. I would like to know if anybody tried it successfully.

ummm i dont know if i would trust those or not. i used a wall mounted spring compressor to do mine. if you dont have access to one of those might be worth giving someone ten bucks to do it for you.

I did 926 with 4 compressors strapped to my 1/2 in plate welding table and that was scary. I wouldn't attempt CRD springs!

Do you have your life insurance paid up?
Is your will made out with me getting everything?

If so sure go ahead. My shop uses a wall mounted one and it still can be tricky at times

Wall mounted is nice -but

these work on CRD coils and OME790's

They sell them at Advance auto for ~$40 - but you'll probably have to special order them

My will is done and I give everything to the wife (including my CRD), my insurance is paid up (to the wife) and new baby is on the way. Don't feel much like not enjoying my new lift. I think I will get it done by a shop. Thanks for the advise.

good idea, i wouldn't compress them with anything less than a freestanding unit, i even got a little nervous on our borrowed floor model with the OMEhd's

Brought my struts to a specialized shop today. I told them it would be rock 'n roll but the guy tried it on their hydraulic unit for cars strut and bent an arm. Then, they tried it with an hydraulic press and metallic straps. With 2 straps, it broke the straps. It takes absolutely 3 straps and a hell of an hydraulic press. A job that was supposed to last 1/2 hr lasted 1 1/2 hours. I'm almost done with the front tonight. I just have to reinstall the battery tray right after I change my turbo cooler hose. I discovered I had a hose rubbing on the buddy and the plastic braid wasn't positioned properly. There's a point on that hose where it feels like a party balloon so thin it is. Thanks for all the advices. Using a suspension shop to compress the 790 was a wise one.

good deal!

people can keep messin around with those autozone rental compressors all they want

friend of mine had a set of those break on some chevy coils and the spring came out, hit the center stud of the tire machine then bounced and broke his face

literally

Thats what happened to a friend of mine as well, he lived for another year but in a coma, hate those cheap little rental compressors.

When we did Boilers 927s my shop had one come loose and went 30 foot across the floor and bounce off of the wall. They have an air wall mounted one. Problem with some of them too they are made for larger springs, KJs are pretty small around so they do not fit in all machines right. Now with my 790s they didn't have a problem.

I wouldn't use the screw type.

I have one of these for HD needs. Hasn't failed me yet.

I bought one of those big pile's of crap
fingers are too big to fit back into the 927s or the 790s . Then if you did get them compressed there is no easy way to get the fingers back out! May work on rear springs but of course you don't need them for those anyways
so thats my :2cents: :-)r

Lift is completely installed now!!! It took me a total of 7.5hrs, first time I'm doing it and by myself. Quite happy with the results. The jeep now sits at a height of 21" from axle to fender.
