Apologies in advance for the phrasing but I'm too immature to pass it up...

If it's not rubbing do I have to pound it?

Newly installed 245/75/16 Duratracs on a 2004 KJ with Old Man Emu medium duty suspension components. Tires are within an inch or so of the pinch weld but do not rub even at full lock.

While I don't wheel hardcore, I do access remote trailheads and, needless to say, I don't want to gouge a trough into my brand new tires. So, can I leave the situation "as is" or will offroad terrain invariably create contact between tire and pinch weld?

Many thanks...

I pounded mine down because of my vertical driveway, as long as you don't turn at full lock all the time you should be good, I got much more room now except for the fog light housing...

I've had 3 different 245/75/16's
one clear the pinch weld no problem
one scuffed occasionally
one rubbed every turn

the part that rubs is the tread - the 245 - is the section width - not the tread
treads can easily vary 1/2" or more for the same 'size'
that's enough to make a difference.

I agree with the comments above. I would avoid pounding until the time comes necessary. I’m running 245/70/17 (30.6” tall) on stock rims and Frankenlift without any rubbing issues. But my next tire will be a 255/70/17 (31.1” tall), and I’ll have no choice but to pound.
