Hello,

It looks like I need a new transfer case for my Jeep Liberty '06. It's a Select-trac model. Chrysler wants $1500 for this part. Does anyone know where I could get perhaps a reconditioned one cheaper? If anyone has experience with a trusted provider would really appreciate the info.

Warm regards,

Greg

Car-Part . com - transfer cases don't wear out very often (now you can break them)
so used ones tend to be fairly good
(if you get one that's not in snow country - it may not have ever been engaged)

Did they tell you what is wrong with it? I have had many 4x4 and the most I ever did was put a chain and a few bearing in them. I just looked on ebay for a 242 transfer case 285 hits. $300-$500 all day long.

Thank you for your replies thus far. The problem is that it won't shift into full-time. The other modes work OK. The repair person told me that the transfer case needed to be replaced if I want to access full-time mode as he said that there was unrepairable damage. I'll admit though that I don't know more than that.

Warm regards,

Greg

Mine (Stealership) got me one for around 600... that was also broken (unknown at the time) but covered by the junk yards guarantee so they cracked it open and fixed it... PITA

I'd say find an AMMCO or other trans place as they may be willing to find and warranty a used one.

You can buy every part in that transfer case. I had to rebuilt mine last year. $875.00 If I had it to do over again I would get a used one from the junk yard.
