Hello all! Im new to the forum and jeeps all together. A friend of the family is gifting me his 02 3.7 sport. And just wanted to know if theres anything i should look into before assigning it my daily driver, it has about 120k on it. Also the jeeps in texas and im in jersey so im going to have it shipped to me, after days of reading horror storys about shady happenings with such companies i think i found a local carrier i feel safe dealing with but im also open to sugestions if any one has shipped vehicles before. Have you compared the shipping cost to buying a 1 way ticket (bus, plane or train) and driving it back?

Yea i looked into it. Its a little bit cheaper to have it shiped, and i cant afford the time off of work i would need for the trip

I went to Ohio from Milwaukee to get my first KJ CRD. Cost me $69 one way on a Greyhound to get there. Only 350 miles though. I'd think that you could jump a flight real cheep. I'd look online at plane tickets.

Well with it being a gaser I would do a full fluid change first thing everything from coolant to Diffs. And plenty of write ups on doing all of it.

Congratulations!

I've shipped a vehicle before. I don't like doing it since I don't trust most people with my vehicles but it can be a necessary evil. If you don't have the time to go get it then it seems like that is your only option unless you wanted to buy the family friend a ticket home after convincing them to drive it to you!

I was planning on doing fluid changes and a tune up, i always do that striaght off when getting a used vehicle, thanks for the opinion. As far as flying i found some cheap flights but between fuel cost and hotel ( dont really want to drive 22 hours straaight through) its roughly the same price as shipping. Plus i really hate flying, so a car transport it is. Hopeing to have it here soon!

:ROTFL: No
On a 10 year old KJ with sagged out springs Not going to happen
The Daystar may get you maybe an inch above stock height
Don't even waste your time and money on the Daystar
Do it right with a full spring kit with new shocks
Plus when you get a full spring lift its going to take more than 2.5 inches along with re-gearing the frint and rear diffs to 4.10s to run the 265-75-16s

Haha duely noted. What would you sugest for a modest budget?

Post subject:  Re: NEW NEW NEW... to me atleast :)

How modest of a budget? And OME/bilstien/Rancho with top plates, extra rear isos, and Cleve's lift can be had for around 800 if you shop around and install it yourself. Or atleast at a meet/greet.

Start buying springs/shocks
buy rear springs one week, fronts next pay, then it will be modest

The 265s are off my old ram 1500 i was just wondering if i could re purpose them on the libby... Any way, im not lookin to do anything to crazy just a couple inches for light trails and the occasional jersey blizzard. What could i do lift/ tire wise that wont require a re gear and completly kill the already rediculous fuel economy? I was looking at the ome sets and rock father but it doesnt say anything about how much lift you gain

Well normally 2 or 2.5 how you equip it and say no to anything rocky-road you are asking for poor service and crappy products. Jeepinbyal and boulder bars are two sites to try. Or just do some searching I put my OME lift together from about 5 different sites. Also there are a few lifts and pieces of lifts for sale on here. And with 265s I think a regear is a must unless you want a toasted tranny and horrible mileage. So either re gear or sell them and buy another size of tire.

If you look OME springs are advertised at 1.5 inches when in reality you get over 2 inches
There are some tricks that will get you 3-3.25 inches fairly easy
Combine that with 245-75-16 tires on the stock wheels and you're good to go
also OME or Bilstein shocks work good

Ok i think im guna go with the OME 2.0 complete lift. $761 from jba, what are those "little tricks" you speak of? Just a clevis lift?

Author:  tommudd [ Fri Apr 06, 2012 10:01 am ]
Post subject:  Re: NEW NEW NEW... to me atleast :)

Clevis lift is part of it
3/8 inch clevis will give you 3/4 of an inch lift
a 1/4 inch top plate ( JBA has them as well) will give you 1/2 inch lift
so right there is 1.25 inches of lift
From ( new stock height) the combination above with OME 927s in front will set you about 22.5 in front after it settles in
( measuring from middle of the wheel to bottom of the flare )
