Good Morning

Please can you advised if this Powertrax Lockright Differential Locker 2210, 27 SPL will fit our KJ front Dana 30?

If someone has fitted it, is it worth the expense?

Also when running on the road normaly, without 4x4, it won't affect the road handling, will it?

Fil.

do you have a locker in the rear? I'm almost ready to add traction aids to my Liberty. I have in my mind of adding a selectable locker or a lunchbox locker(dendending on the wallet) in the rear and selectable locker later( maybe never) in the front. I'm not sure about the other guys but I wouldn't want the front diff locking up when it felt like it on a DD. I'd go lunchbox in the rear only.

Hi
Mine comes with Jeep LSD at the back as standard but i am still looking for the front diff. I know back one isn't great but is better that nothing when it works. ARB lockers are for now out of budget saddly.

hi!

I would go for a detroit locker in the rear and leave the front as it is... it depends on where you take it though... if you want to go where you have never gone before, than i would consider a selectable locker. Thats cause any lunchbox would affect your driving on the road... especially on the front and especially if you also have snow... so, if you take out the LSD (i am not even sure you have one - it might be the no slip rear axle and thats not an LSD) and put a detroit locker that should do it... and leave the front alone...

unless you want do do the rubicon trail... :)))

thank you!

Sacax,
you can check you build sheet that will tell you if your KJ had one from the factory, but then you have taken it out. On mine it still works okay after I changed the oiland added the additive. Yes I agree with you a Detoit Locker would definately be better in the back but for now I looking for the front. I will see, looking for feed back from how has fitted one.
Thank you in anycase,
Fil

Lunchbox lockers are not recommeded for the D30A,for the simple reason that they are aluminum. There junk lockers anyway and the cost of putting one is the same as putting a full carrier replacement as the carrier must come out the get the cross pin out since it uses a roll pin to hold the center pin in and not a bolt(holy run on sentance).Might as well just pay a little more for a full carrier replacement since the labor will be the same eitherway.

I would highly recommend the Detroit TrueTrac LSD for the front, works very well in the front of a KJ.I ran the DTT up front and the ARB in the rear and wheeled all over the place from here in CO to MOAB without issue.I'm now ARB front and rear since DTT's are only rated to 33" tires, but no friction modifier needed as no clutches are in the DTT.

I didnt have the LSD on rear axle... I really think that a lockright would give you lots of issues on the driving if installed in front... go for what tjkj2002 said... he knows better than me...
If you have snow in your area (and i think you do) do not go for the lunchbox... you will most certainly have major problems when steering on icy roads... my opinion...

Also, for your consideration...

I have done a lot of wheeling and a little bit with broken axles...usually just one in the front.

You will probably break an axle on one of your trips chances are and if you put the lockright in you can keep wheeling. With a limited slip up front your driving back home...game over. If you can still get traction to 1 front tire you can atleast still trail ride and baby it a little.

The breakage of the D30A housing is probably irrelevant because if it's gonna break it's gonna break...My understanding is that it has more to do with the casting process and the inconsistencies in mass producing them. So some of them have greater stresses cast into them then others. You never know which one you have...

I have driven an Unlimited with Lincoln locked 14 bolt rear and full detroit front locker in front on snow and ice with no problems at all just driving slow and careful which is what u should do anyhow...

But if someone else drives your Jeep in the snow or ice they might have trouble because it won't drive properly.

I don't dislike the selectable lockers in the front, but I think the torque in the D30A should always be divided between the axles plus ARB's are a little pricey compared to automatic lockers.

BTW my Liberty also has the Trac-Lok rear axle and I am adding a lunchbox locker to the front...I've researched this a bit and there's a few guys on NAXJA who actually like this type setup for a good cheap combo.

Bottom line is sometimes you just have to do your own thing...I've found that works great for me...

Other than the fact that I disagree on his stand on Lunch Box lockers, TJKJ has a point if you are going to do the front diff of a Liberty you may as well go selectable. The Labour will be pretty much the same as the front diff needs to be removed from the Liberty to do the install anyways, if it had a Solid axle and it was as simple as pop cover dump guts reload I'd try and sway you towards the Lunch Box. Unfortunately they aren't factory :banghead: if your wallet will allow I would do the ARB in the front or Detroit, those are my :2cents: on the situation.

Also Inconsistencies in the mass production of 30a's be damned shock loads will always be the killer of an aluminum housing, look at all the Grands with 44A's in the back out there sporting cracked housings. If you are putting your IFS Liberty places you need a locker you should be aware that it's really only a matter of time before you get to yell :BINGO:

To further confuse your decision on front locker options...

Summit racing sells the d30 DTT for only $388

That's really a pretty good price...
