Ome springs- paint falling off, rust

If you marred them up installing them then thats part of the problem
Doesn't take much for the paint to start chipping / flaking off
Know what you do don't you?

Haha its funny because i was thinking you'd be the first to respond- and it only took 14 minutes.
Would i need to sand them down to bare metal?
I was thinkin about painting them but not sure if any rattle can paint would stay flexible enough esp in the cold.
I know some rustoleum cans say "paints over rust" but i'm skeptacle of that.

I wouldn't worry as it the KJ will fall apart oround those coils even if rusty.Spring steel is by far more robust then any other steel on/in your Jeep.

Ours have been on for over two years and the powder coat finish is still 100% intact and look great when I pressure wash them!

My OME springs are starting to look similar to those. Mine lasted for several years though. Those springs are the worst looking thing under my jeep. I'd like to put some bed liner on them.

Mine after just over a year are stating to rust up in some spots. I guess it's the salt on the roads in the winter over here in England.

I brought this back because I was dissapointed by the quality of these OME springs...atleast from the powder coating issue. I took mine apart two days ago and they had a thin layer of surface rust forming. Thats from one year of SoCal weather!!! Those 5 days of rain really reared their ugly head. My last car I put on a set of Eibach springs. 4 years of crappy Pittsburgh rain, snow, sleet, and overly salted winter roads...not even the slightest hint of rust forming on the springs. I could have washed them off, slapped them back in the box and sold them as new thats how clean they were. yeah...a little surface rust insnt going to hurt the performance of the spring...i would think at a certain point if the rust is bad enough it would cause some effect. Regardless, it just shows the level of quality..and OME dont appear to be up to par in that regard.

My rear OME 864's are rust free,have been for almost 3 years.

I would be well p!ssed at the state of those in that amount of time, knowing what OME cost !!

As already said, I had a pair of Eibach springs on my Mitsy off roader, and 3yrs of british winters and salted roads had little or no effect on them :shock:

I am about to put H&R springs on my KJ, and seeing those I thing I'll use top plates and isolators with them when the time comes to go higher

i was looking at my OME after one year on the British road and I have a lot of Bubble of rust now. Are the H&R painted or plastified? hope they fair better than my OME.

Might be worth getting the OME's powder coated if its an issue ?? I've had loads of stuff done over the years, including springs .... look like new once done and very durable

For the price of those things I would not be a very happy camper if they looked like that in that short of time. Which lift kit claims to give your KJ the ride of a Mercedes? Does it use the same springs? :5SHOTS:
