This is something I'm thinking about doing next year. I assume all NP231 t-cases and parts are interchangeable with NV231 t-case.

Option 1: JBConversions NP231 HD with SYE

Option 2: Rebuild stock NV231 with heavy duty planetary gear, heavy duty chain and sprocket, and slip-yoke eliminator.

Or is this a big waste of money until something breaks?

Maybe just a rebuild kit?

T-case has 97K miles on it now. I would wait until it had over 100K. Plan to get at least 50K more out of it.

If you've changed the t-case fluid and not abused the t-case like driving in 4hi/low on pavement or other drastic abuse the 231 will easily last 200k+.In most cases only the chain needs to be replaced if caught soon enough.

I've changed the fluid and haven't abused it intentionally or otherwise. Thanks very much for the advice! I won't worry about any special transfer case maintenance or mods any time soon.
