Post subject:  Safety compressing springs+ 4mm plastic strut spacers
I'm going to do the job on Sunday with the typical hook manual type compressor. I will do it alone..Could you give any advice or safety warnings to keep out of harm's way?

By the way, I'm going to use two 4mm plastic plates under the front strut rubber isolators just to level the front end a bit after installing a 2" kit ( front 1" lower ), do you think that is a safe solution? I could go with the clevis lift but it is not enough as I don't want more than 3mm at the clevis.

I have the CRD so my front springs are heavier - I had problems with the manual compressors - I started with u bolts style (clamps to the spring ) - I could take things apart but when I tried to compress it - the 2 clamps worked together so the coil was bowed instead of compressed - tried it several times - same result - I went to Autozone (they rent tools - free if they come back in good condition) and got hook type compressors - however the hook had a lip on the end - and when the springs were compressed enough to assemble it - I couldn't remove the hooks - gave up on that - took them to a Tire shop with a wall mounted spring compressor - I helped align everything - cost $20 and took 30 minutes.
I don't know about the spacers, they sound reasonable but I haven't done it nor do I know if anyone else has.

Advice: Never stand with your head over the strut assembly or have the ends pointing towards anything of value as you are compressing. Wear safety goggles or shield.
or
Have your hated neighbor do the strut compression work. Offer him a beer for doing it. :twisted:
